Somewhere Beyond the Sea is the hugely anticipated sequel to TJ Klune's The House in the Cerulean Sea, one of the best-loved and best-selling fantasy novels of the past decade.
A magical house. A secret past. A summons that could change everything.
Arthur Parnassus lives a good life, built on the ashes of a bad one. He’s the headmaster of a strange orphanage on a distant and peculiar island, and he hopes to soon be the adoptive father to the six magical and so-called dangerous children who live there.
Arthur works hard and loves with his whole heart so none of the children ever feel the neglect and pain that he once felt as an orphan on that very same island so long ago. And he is not alone: joining him is the love of his life, Linus Baker, a former caseworker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth; Zoe Chapelwhite, the island’s sprite; and her girlfriend, Mayor Helen Webb. Together, they will do anything to protect the children.
But when Arthur is summoned to make a public statement about his dark past, he finds himself at the helm of a fight for the future that his family, and all magical people, deserve.
And when a new magical child hopes to join them on their island home—one who finds power in calling himself monster, a name Arthur worked so hard to protect his children from—Arthur knows they’re at a breaking point: their family will either grow stronger than ever or fall apart.
Welcome back to Marsyas Island. This is Arthur’s story.
Somewhere Beyond the Sea is a story of resistance, lovingly told, about the daunting experience of fighting for the life you want to live and doing the work to keep it.
Most Anticipated from Goodreads, Paste, Polygon, BookBub, and more.

In the spring of 1995, Nate Cartwright has lost everything: his parents are dead, his only brother wants nothing to do with him, and he's been fired from his job as a journalist in Washington, DC. With nothing left to lose, he returns to his family's summer cabin outside the small mountain town of Roseland, Oregon, to try and find some sense of direction. The cabin should be empty. It's not. Being a hit man has its perks, but I never thought getting an accidental mooning by an attractive PI while he’s caught on a fence would be one of them. While it’s not exactly love at first sight, he’s captured my interest and won’t let go. Suddenly, I find myself caught in a game of cat and mouse, determined to attract the attention of Jackson, the PI who should be my enemy. He pretends like he’s not flattered by my flowers and the mentions of my totally-not-fictitious blow-up doll, Randy (or was it Dandy?), but I know better.

Story
Liame Noone was many things to many people. To the public, he was an exacting, self-made hotel magnate fleeing his past. To his three ex-wives, he was a loving albeit distant family man who kept his finances flush and his families carefully separated. To Nora, he was a father who often loved her from afar—notably, a cliffside cottage perched on the California coast where he fell to his death.

As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Peter is a Dublin lawyer in his thirties—successful, competent, and apparently unassailable. But in the wake of their father’s death, he’s medicating himself to sleep and struggling to manage his relationships with two very different women—his enduring first love, Sylvia, and Naomi, a college student for whom life is one long joke. Ivan is a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player. He has always seen himself as socially awkward, a loner, the antithesis of his glib elder brother. Now, in the early weeks of his bereavement, Ivan meets Margaret.

Welcome Home
Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune is the continuation of The House in the Cerulean Sea, told from Arthur’s POV. TJ’s talk on tour is, as he said, queer wrath. If THitCS is a warm hug, SBtS is a protest rally. It’s only the following year, but the children have grown in their confidence, and Arthur runs out of fu¢ks to give. It is beautiful. And ragey. And it filled my Mama Bear heart with joy for the future of our kids. To be fair, I started crying at the dedication, and stopped with the epilogue. I also laughed some, growled some, and sighed some. As TJ said in his insta reel on release day, “Welcome home.”
Daniel Henning elevated an already amazing story that much higher with his narration. And the acknowledgements were read by TJ himself, so I also cried there. I lied when I said I stopped crying with the epilogue. Oops.

Incredible writing and performance
The story is phenomenal in and of itself but the narrator makes me feel some of the scenes so intensely, he’s just remarkable.

Amazing story and incredible found family!
The continuation of The house in the Cerelean Sea is wonderfully done. The dialogue is my absolute favorite. The children are all so different and loving and so so humorous. I have a few of them at home and this story makes me love them so much more and makes me want so bad to give them a house where they can feel loved and safe. I only hope what I am currently doing can only result in the same outcome. Thank you, TJ for this beauty and thank you for the tears of joy that reading this made me feel!

Amazing Storytelling & Just What These Troubled Times Need
This is such a "TJ Klune story," with so much heart! This story goes into trauma & the ways we're perceived. But what it really does it fills me with hope for the future, for overcoming bigotry and for everyone finding their place and their people!
I've listened to more audiobooks than I can count. I've come to love certain actors' voices, but what's unique about this actor is the way his performance brings a depth of emotion to Klune's words.
I can't recommend this book highly enough. Yet again, Klune has created a story that brings joy and hope.

Magic, love, humor. What else is there? I love this follow-up sequel .I busted out laughing with what the kids in the book say. This is what real family values looks like . may have shed a tear or two during some of the vulnerable parts. Can’t wait to visit Marcius on my next vacation.
