If the lack of a Table of Contents drives you nuts, then I recommend the non-graphic audio version of this collection- it still has two narrators and labels the five shorts and the POV segments, which is crucial if you’re trying to listen without spoilers in the ten-book timeline for the Kate Daniels series, I only recommend getting this for the POV half if you’re buying the traditional full length books (with Rene Raudman’s narration). If you plan on buying the graphic audio versions with the sound effects and extended cast of narrators, know that these POVs are included a few at a time in each of those full length books.
Furthermore, the five shorts have appeared elsewhere, such as in the Dark and Stormy Nights anthology. Retribution Clause appears in the graphic audio of book 1’s Magic Bites in addition to in the Hex Appeal anthology. Magic Test appears in graphic audio book 5.
As for the content, this collection could serve as nice samplers for those uninitiated to the Kate Daniels series, or as bonus material for fans like myself. My favorite shorts were the two complete standalones
(Of Swine And Roses and Grace Of Small Magics), which take place in the Kate Daniels universe, but don’t actually connect to the series regulars. The content is fantastic… I just can’t recommend a collection that’s mostly redundant to the Kate Daniels graphic audio series, unless you can get it on sale.
However, I highly, highly, highly recommend the Kate Daniels series, which is among my favorite urban fantasy series.
