Acerca de esta escucha

In this spellbinding first dramatized audiobook in #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews’ urban fantasy Hidden Legacy series, private detective Nevada Baylor navigates her way through an alternate world where dynasties, built on inherited wealth and magic, guide the course of humanity.

Nevada Baylor runs a small-time detective agency in Houston, Texas, busting scammers, exposing cheaters, and dealing with petty criminals. She’s very good at her job–helped by a magical ability to sense when someone tells the truth or lies. But when she’s forced into accepting a case to find a radical pyrotechnic who can conjure heat and fire at will, Nevada knows she’s out of her league. To bring him to justice, she’ll have to join forces with someone who wields an even more dangerous power.

Connor “Mad” Rogan is a former combat mage, a telekinetic singularly responsible for mass destruction in war-torn countries, and a member of one of the most powerful magic families in the world. His nephew has been kidnapped by the fugitive pyromaniac, and Nevada is his best chance at finding them both. But unlike Nevada, Connor could care less about societal law and order, and has no qualms about extinguishing his family’s enemy.

Bound by their mission, Nevada and Connor clash over their tactics and moral beliefs, even as things undeniably heat up between them. But the man they’re chasing is involved in a darker conspiracy that threatens to destroy the city–and destabilize the balance of power the elite magical families use to influence every nation on Earth.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

Sounds like a bad high school theater version

First off I love this series! Also I have listened to narrated versions and then listened to the graphic audio version of other series and loved both versions. The production sounds like a bad high school theater. Overall it’s not good but it’s also cringy and tasteless. Professor Ito’s voice like some who watch one too many Charlie Chan movies and it was extra cringy. Nevada voice actress overdramatizing is give adolescent angst which doesn’t fit the character. The last straw for me was when Nevada pronounced the Hindu God The Lord Shiva (SHEE-VUH) as Shiva as in to sit SHIV-UH. smh

Rogan’s voice didn’t work for me

Sorry - totally subjective, but this actor just didn’t fit my view of Rogan. Just found out that the authors have a sample of his voice on their website, I just missed it. I recommend checking that out and making your own choice. The Audible sample only features Nevada and Rogan’s evil cousin.

Oh well, I still have the standard audio which I’ve listened to a zillion times and Kate 10 comes out in Graphic Audio format next month!! Those are incredibly well done. This just didn’t work for me. So ch is life.

Chemistry wasn’t there

This is a great series, but book 1 suffers a bit by the necessity of focusing on Nevada and Rogan.
My favorite books in this series give the entire Baylor family, plus extended family like Cornelius and Matilda, a lot more screen time. The later books also get into House warfare, which really kicks things up.

This book failed to sell the chemistry between Nevada and Connor. Partly, it’s the writing, which doesn’t humanize Connor enough, nor give him many redeeming qualities; he’s just another insufferable, all powerful, mega-rich beefcake. Partly, it’s the narration. As much as I appreciate the graphic audio format chopping three and a half hours compared to the regular audio format, neither Nevada nor Connor’s voices were particularly unique or sexy.

I admit, however, that it’s hard to reset my brain to new narrators … so maybe it’s not them; it’s me.
I still highly recommend this book because it kicks off a great series with a unique magic system and features an entire family of fascinating characters with even more interesting magical abilities.
If you’re tired of series with the ubiquitous single white MC, or with the usual vampires and shifters,
then this is the urban fantasy series for you.

Good Production, Fair Narration

I was so looking forward to the graphic audio version of this book so I had it preordered. I loved the standard version because Renee Raudman did a great job with narration, but her voice for Rogan sounded a little too old for me. So I was looking forward to an actual male voice for Rogan from Graphic Audio. This production is pretty good, both main narrators have good voices, but the main female narrator is trying way too hard, she talks like she's singing and it gets cringy at times. The male narrator on the other hand doesn't get Rogan's emotion right at times. In terms of techniques both of them fell short when compared to Renee. Overall it felt like the production team didn't treat it as seriously as the Kate Daniels series. I'm hesitant to purchase the 2nd and 3rd books.

Balance was good

I made the mistake of reading the reviews first and thought that maybe it wouldn’t be all that good because there were some negative voice reviews. That said I actually really enjoyed it once I got into it. I thought the voices did a great job. I like how they’re adding music and I like how nothing overpowers the thing that matters most - the voices. That hasn’t always been true of graphic audio Productions in the early days, but now they’ve totally got it down. I also love little hidden snippets of voices that I enjoyed and recognized from other places. Great story told by some great readers. I enjoyed it.

So so good!

I love this series so much. Really, I love anything Ilona Andrews writes but this one has always been my favorite. The voice actors were so well chosen for the characters. Rogans voice was so smooth and hot, I loved it. Grandma Frida was perfect!!

MFC voice too fast

i was looking forward to the graphic audio version for awhile. Overall it was good. The voice for Nevada spoke too fast, like she was anxious. I had to slow it down to .90 and it was still a bit fast, but made the other characters' voices too slow. I realize that Nevada is only be 25 years old, but she's supposed to be a MATURE 25 given that she's running the family business and the oldest of her siblings and cousins. Hopefully, she calms and gets better in the next book. The voice for Rogan didn't fit either. The original version in my opinion is better.

Disappointed In Some of the Performance and Voices

Like other listeners I also struggled with the voice performances and this affected my enjoyment of this Graphic Audio offering, probably because I know the material and the characters so well from numerous re-reads. I thought Nevada was raised in Houston and it was disconcerting for her not to have even a slight Texas accent. Some of the nuances were also lost. In one instance, the performance rushed Nevada admitting the Ruger worked, but it underplayed how important it was for her to confess to her mother that she made her first kills with that gun. She should have sounded sad and emotionally gutted instead of blasé when she admitted she hit her targets and the performance rushed and underplayed an important moment. Frieda and Penelope were OK, and voices for Bern and Leon were good, but at times Catalina and especially Arabella were too whiny even for teenagers.

Choices for Rogan’s voice and performance just did not work for me in many places – he was too nasty and acerbic instead of intelligent with a thread of wit and dry cleverness. I always thought one of Rogan’s gifts was that he could slip in a bit of charm or sexy warmth in his voice so we understood Nevada’s attraction to him, but in this performance, he often came across as creepy or sleazy or an arrogant jerk so I would not have bought into him as the Romantic Hero lead if I had not known the plot of the stories.

I also thought Cornelius’voice should have been warmer and less bland, but Augustine’s voice was especially off – his demeanor/ personality is a bit more urbane and professional, sort of worldly, not whiny or petulant as he came across.

I love the Graphic Audio Kate Daniels series and the Innkeeper series, and I have listened to both 4 or 5 times, but I am not sure I will want to listen to Books 2 or 3 in this series as I was disappointed and felt it missed the mark I have come to expect from Graphic Audio in capturing the story and personalities through performances and tone.

Love this Series

I just want to say that I love Ilona Andrews. I love all the characters in each of her books.

The Hidden Legacy series is my favorite. I think that’s part of why I struggle a bit with the Graphic Audio version. In the Graphic Audio adaptation, they left out parts of the original book and updated some elements to be more current. Maybe I geeked out too much over the original! Renee Raudman did an amazing job narrating the original series.

That being said, I do love the Graphic Audio version of the Kate Daniels series, and I hope that when they continue adapting all of her work, they stay true to her original work.

Brings the story to life!

Graphic audio has really grown on me! This series (and pretty much anything written by Ilona Andrews) is a favorite of mine. I started reading their books in paperback long before I had discovered Audible. I love the original narrator for this series. And now the graphic audio lets me go back yet again, for that feel of a first experience with the characters. I loved the voice cast, although Rogan did take some time to grow on me. Some of his lines are hot and sexy and I loved how they came out. Sometimes I don’t quite like his cadence. But overall, awesome performance and I will be looking forward to every new release!
