About this listen

Scott Wilkinson is a successful young advertising executive on his way to the top. Christopher Miller is an FBI legend who has been willing to do whatever it takes to see that justice is done. However, at age 50, he's ready to spend more time with his family.

Two weeks before Christmas, Wilkinson goes on a routine business trip that will forever entangle their two lives. It starts like so many others. Wilkinson calls for a car service to take him to the airport. But the driver of Lincoln Town Car 716 is late. When he finally shows up, he drives like a maniac, and Wilkinson feels fortunate to reach the airport alive.

Then he makes a big mistake. He calls the limousine company to complain. Customer Service assures him that the bad driver will be "dealt with". Nicolai Kyznetsoff looks and sounds like all the anonymous others who whisk successful executives back and forth to the airport every day, but the man behind the wheel of Car 716 is something much more sinister: an avenging dark angel who will stop at nothing to wreak revenge on the one man he holds responsible for ruining his life.

The Cabbie From Hell

Slay Ride starts in low but quickly shifts into high gear as you are introduced to a sociopathic cabdriver who escalates a minor disagreement with a fare into full blown life and death conflict with the lives of innocent people hanging in the balance. This is a very good tale of what can happen when two people have an unhappy ride to the airport for one of them to catch a flight. This kind of confrontation happens thousands of times a day in modern America, road rage that starts innocently enough and then boils over in senseless retribution and revenge. Hang on to your seat and go along for the ride with the cabbie from hell.

Darker than Ceepak but just as well told

I love the John Ceepak novels and figured if this was also by Chris Grabenstein, it had to be good. Not the least bit disappointed. Slay Ride is definitely darker and grizzlier than the Ceepack series so be ready for that. Moves along with a 'can't put it down pace' and Jeff Woodman does a terrific job of all these very different voices. I do recommend.

An ordinary, pleasant surprise

I picked up this book after reading (listening) to the whole Ceepak-series. I love Chris Grabensteins writings and the superb narration of Jeff Woodman. Slay Ride is more of a suspence thriller. Although it doen't have the same tounge in cheek style as in the Ceepak-books, was a pleasant surprise. It is an ordinary thriller, but a page-turner and a far better read than most books in this genre. My only objection is the music score at the end of the book. It wasn't necessary, we felt the suspence anyway ;)

Fantastic!

I loved this book – I almost didn't get it because I had never listed to this author/reader - I'm so thrilled I listened to the sample and gave the book a try. As other reviewers have said - it can be quite dark and gruesome in some parts but very funny in others - oh, and not very PC in some - but I like the fact the author didn't back down. I’m going to check out the other 3 books by this author and see if they come close – they have the same narrator (and I plan on seeing what else this narrator has done – he’s fantastic!)

For those who tire of feel-good Christmas fluff

This is NOT the John Ceepak series at all. It is a thriller. Our hero is a famous FBI agent.

Maybe the readers should not be all that tired, after all this seems to be the first of a series, so the main characters, including the hero's child, have to survive till the next book.

But there are vast numbers of bad guys to conquer, two different groups of Russian Mafia.

As usual with Grabenstein's books, the audio is very good, (although I don't know how good the Russian accent is--distinctive here), enough difference in voices to separate the characters.

I Thoroughly Enjoyed the Ride

I totally enjoyed Slay Ride, by Chris Grabenstein. The narrator, Jeff Woodman, did a wonderful job as well, and although I am French, I really loved listening to his Russian words :)

I would totally recommend this book to anyone looking for a good audiobook. It's only 8 hours long, for those listeners who don't like long stories, which of course wasn't long enough for me. I love a good 15-20+ hour long audiobook as I listen quite often in my car. Although some parts of the story have some graphic language and scenes, it all went with the story quite well.

A+ to you both - I will definitely listen to more books written by Chris Grabenstein and narrated by Jeff Woodman!

Misleading title but catchy story.

I enjoyed the plot and storyline but struggle with the gross language. Narrator does excellent accents.

be nice to your driver

I'm not much into thrillers but I can say the story was thrilling and kept me listening. All characters are well-drawn. The story is rather violent at times though.
The narration was fine, I particularly liked the different accents.
