Publisher's summary

This Sky Brooks bundle includes books one through four.

Moon Tortured: The Midwest Pack has three goals: Protect the pack. Protect the pack. And yeah, protect the pack. I have my own goal: Live a simple life and hope no one ever discovers that the quiet young woman next door turns into a wolf.

Darkness Unchained: Just survive. That's been my goal since uncovering a dangerous secret: I died at birth and became host to a very powerful spirit shade. Now I have the rare ability to manipulate magic - an ability some would kill for.

Midnight Falls: My life will never be simple again. As a werewolf who is a host to a powerful spirit shade, I possess the ability to manipulate magic, among other things - and that means I have many enemies. In need of allies, I join the Midwest Pack.

Lunar Marked: The Midwest Pack used the Clostra to perform a powerful and dangerous spell to save me. Now the pack is dealing with the aftermath and doing damage control. But they can't hide how the magic has changed the dynamics of the otherworld - or that they are responsible.

Only 22 hours in

SPOILERS:

So: I’m 22 ours in- about 30 left to go. I really like the world of the story. I really like the attributes of the characters that make them unique from one another. Overall so far- in general it’s an interesting read.
My one major problem which is why I’m writing a review only 22 hours in is that I feel like Skye has no passion or personality. I don’t think it’s just the way the narrator chose to deliver the lines. Example of a situation: Ethan kisses Skye.
Skye: hm.
Skye walks in on Ethan and Chris doing the dirty.
Skye: I observed this situation. Anyway here are my observations on this other situation.

It feels so robotic. It is absolutely possible to have a kick ass female lead character without her fawning all over the guy character or dramatizing every romantic situation. Her reactions just don’t feel genuine. Even if she isn’t a dramatic or grudge holding person, I expected more of a reaction to her walking in on Chris and Ethan together as slightly more. Or rather I guess, I’d have enjoyed it if we got to see her reaction, process her feelings, compartmentalize, then go kick ass. Take us on that journey of emotion with you.
Having no opinion at all just took my interest in the character away a bit.

That’s all; I’ll edit this review if it gets better as I listen!

I don't like needing a dictionary!

There are too many words real people don't use in this book! I am a college graduate, but not an English major!

I like this take on a shifter with magic who keeps finding out more about herself

This book starts off action packed. Skylar wakes up in the lair of wereanimals who have been tasked to keep her safe from vampires she didn’t know existed. During her prolonged stay, she learns about herself and the wolf that resides within. When her magical ability is revealed, she must learn to be strong against manipulation and avoid getting killed by her enemies and allies.

I am giving this book 3.5 stars because I don’t understand why Chris got so much attention in Sky’s second book. I didn’t particularly care about her in the first book and Sky still has a lot of issues, no love options and I can’t stand Demetrius. I didn’t like him when he wanted to kill Sky not do I like the bargain Chris makes with him. Josh, Stephen and Sebastian are ruthless and the vampires, Fae, demons and other monsters pop up in the weirdest ways. No HEA for Skylar and time has passed making the pack bond stronger.

So now Sky has joined the pack and with the exception of Steven and Josh they don’t seem to like her. Sebastian keeps secrets and as alpha never seems happy with her actions. Ethan is an extra bossy beta. The Faes, vampires and witches are no longer allies and the magic she holds or doesn’t is like a yo-yo. Ethan runs so hot and cold it makes me wonder whether she should pack a bag and go find that uncle in Canada. Family is not a good concept in this series and the bond she has with the vampire she “saved” is unstable. If you are looking for romance this is not the series. But I am compelled to continue the series.

Well at age 24-25 Skylar has honed herself into a badazz, she can fight, she has reconciled with her wolf and has tried to remain true to her sense of humanity and what is right and wrong. The pack still treats her like a problem child. Josh and the magic is a shaky situation. Ethan continues to run hot and cold and never gives her the full story about anything. Sebastian is dominating as always. Being kidnapped, Sky has figured out a way to save herself as much as possible and keeps an eye on her vampire friend. The vampires, witches, and dark elves get on my last nerve but I am compelled to move on to the next in the series.

Skylar Brooks is disappointingly weak....

So far there are so many characters I like more than Skylar. If it were not for Ethan, I don't think I would have continued to listen. Hopefully something will happen in the 4th book to change my mind.

Teenage mind, self righteous, over privileged naive,

Teenage mind, self righteous, over privileged naive, and stunted main character. Extremely disappointed evolution, the damsel in distress monologue and self loathing ruins this story. The constant victim mentality about her life, judging views of others, and the mind numbness selfishness/self centered mentality made it difficult to listen to this. And let’s not mention to narrator..!! So bad, even at 1.5 speed it felt like watching paint dry while being torched by nail on a chalkboard.. Extremely drawn out storyline, 4 books that could have been good in 2, less the infantilization of the main character.

Narrator sounds like she has a stuffy nose

Pretty slow book I agree with other readers I struggle to finish. Mostly because I find the narrator to drone on. Narrator also speaks like she’s extremely congested.
