About this listen

The liver is the seat of our overall health and wellness, and the health of nearly every organ is intimately connected with our liver. A healthy liver is essential to a fully functioning body, but our modern sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits can truly damage the liver - and damage our health overall.

A silent health crisis is impacting one third of the American population - nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Because its symptoms often don't manifest until the liver is seriously compromised, many people are not aware that they are at risk. Did you know that if you have fatty liver disease, you are more likely to develop cardiovascular disease (heart attack and stroke) and potentially several devastating conditions such as liver cirrhosis and liver cancer? Did you know that fat is as dangerous as alcohol to the liver?

Award-winning dietitian Kristin Kirkpatrick and hepatologist Dr. Ibrahim Hanouneh have teamed up for a life-changing program that will help you achieve optimal health. Skinny Liver's four-week program shares the steps you can take to get your liver health back on track, with everything from exercise to healthy eating and other lifestyle changes - along with delicious liver-friendly recipes. Written by two experts in the field and based on the latest research, Skinny Liver is an authoritative, easy-to-follow guide to health and wellness, not just for your most essential organ but for your whole body.

"CPR" for Sick Liver. Grateful.

Developed understanding of liver function and the serious, if not deadly, conditions a poorly functioning liver causes. Better yet what to do to help the liver regenerate. It is the only organ that regenerates if given the care and time to do so.

good intro to liver

A great introductory primer for someone recently diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (on my birthday of all days 😑) and perhaps worse. She starts off by explaining the liver and its importance before detailing the primary solution: diet and exercise. Obviously more time is spent on the diet portion, and I found this very helpful as someone who never paid much attention to what I ate until now.

Good info. Very repetitive.

I chose this one over some of the others because it looked like it was written from more of a professional/doctor’s perspective. And indeed, the information was very good, however could’ve been shortened by 75%

Disliked the book somewhat

It was very good information, though very repetitive. The same points and definitions of terms were stated multiple times, ad nauseam. I had to listen to the book using the 1.4x normal speed.

The first several chapters are quite depressing with a prognosis of gloom and doom. I thought it would be optimistic at some point but it didn’t feel that way to me.

The bottom line is the Western diet is harmful, innutritious and does not a healthy lifestyle. The author briefly mentions intestinal permeability without calling it “leaky gut” or mentioning the work of Dr. Gundry in this field.

Excellent information. Unfortunately the narration sounds a bit condescending

I encourage everyone to get this book and listen to it. Try to not get put off by the tone of voice that some parts are delivered in. There were several new bits of information that I consider to be very important. I am highly knowledgeable about health, and there were things in here that greatly surprised me.

Good Book to Learn About Liver Health

This is a good book to quickly increase one's knowledge about liver health. Especiailly the beginning chapters clearly and concisely explain a lot of information about the liver that is good for anyone to know and that most people don't know.

There is one error by the reader in Chapter 11 that made me laugh so hard that I bookmarked and saved it because it was so unbelievable that neither the reader nor the editor of the audiobook noticed the absurdity of what was being said (that A 2010 study from Virginia Tech found that when overweight adults drank 16 glasses of water before each meal, they consumed fewer calories . . .). Really, did they die first? I looked up the actual research which refers to 16 OUNCES of water not GLASSES of water. The advice is nonetheless highly questionable for anyone with issues relating to digestion or acid reflux.

While I enjoyed this unintended humor, perhaps by my leaving this review, this error will be removed.
