About this listen

On Lansdown Hill, near Bath, England, a battle between Roundheads and Cavaliers that took place over 350 years ago is annually reenacted. Two of the reenactors discover a skeleton that is female, headless, and only about twenty years old. One of them, a professor who played a Cavalier, is later found murdered. In the course of his investigation, Peter Diamond butts heads with the group of vigilantes who call themselves the Lansdown Society, discovering in the process that his boss Georgina is a member. She resolves to sideline Diamond, but matters don't pan out in accordance with her plans.©2009 Peter Lovesey. All rights reserved. Critic reviews

"Diamond remains one of the most realistic and human of fictional sleuths....While some readers will anticipate the solution with little trouble, sharp prose and characterization make this another winner in this enduring series." ( Publishers Weekly)

Wonderful

This story pulls the reader in from the beginning. The characters are great and so are the twists in the stories. I love each of the Diamond stories!!!!

Another complex story

I love the twists and turns these mysteries always have. I love the fact that finding the motive takes work. Looking forward to the next book already

maybe the best of the series

This is my third or fourth read in the series, and it's maybe the best. Strong 4 stars, maybe 4.5.

A bit dull

I got bored with this one. Having it all wrapped up in the last 30 mins having figured it out half way through made it a bit dull. I do still intend to follow the series since most are well done. Excellent narration.

twists and turns but another great story

Better than Sherlock holmes. Diamond is a very complex character with many sides. it's great to see how he develops. love how the Paloma relationship is progressing.
yet again Simon Prebble does not disappoint. was narrated perfectly!

One of the Best.

Glad I came across this remarkable novel. History, horses and costume design mix with full characters and settings beautifully. I look forward to more of this great series.
