About this listen

Kori Daniels is a shadow-walker, able to travel instantly from one shadow to another. After weeks of confinement for betraying her boss, she's ready to break free of the Tower syndicate for good. But Jake Tower has one final job for Kori, one chance to secure freedom for herself and her sister, Kenley, even if it means taking it from someone else.

The job? Recruit Ian Holt - or kill him.

Ian's ability to manipulate the dark has drawn interest from every syndicate in the world, most notably an invitation from Jake Tower. Though he has no interest in organized crime, Ian accepts the invite, because he's on a mission of his own. Ian has come to kill Tower's top Binder: Kori's little sister.

Amid the tangle of lies, an unexpected thread of truth connecting Ian and Kori comes to light. But with opposing goals, they'll have to choose between love and liberty.

Awesome

This is an entertaining mystery with sympathetic characters. The world created by Vincent is and dark and well developed. I had to stop listening at times because of how real the characters and situations felt.

Enjoyable second book in the series

Firstly, if you haven't listened to Blood Bound, the first in the series, then download that one before this.

Kari, a Shadow Walker has to recruit Ian a Blinder otherwise she will again be tortured in the 'basement' but this time it will be to the death - then her sister will have to take her place in the 'basement' - an offer she cannot and dare not refuse. That is until she starts to fall for Ian and then she's torn apart by what she can say, shouldn't say and dare not say.

Most enjoyable Sci-Fi romance and well worth the credit.

nonstop

Would you listen to Shadow Bound again? Why?

I really like this series but I did not like this one as much as the first. Action packed and sexual tension kept me listeniing almost nonstop but I wish there was a little more interaction between the first and second book characters.

Have you listened to any of Gabra Zackman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Narrator did a great job! I always amazed at women who can make male characters so sexy.

Oh, the language

This would have been a pretty great story without all the bad language. Not necessary and it ruined the story for me.

2nd Listen

I forgot how much I loved Ian and the way he falls for Kori! She is a tough girl with lots of baggage and he handles her perfectly. I love how she teaches him how to find the loop holes in her world and together they win! This series has so many twists and turns and I love that. Keeps me on my toes the entire time. Love the world the author has great and how original it is compared to all the other PNR i've read over the years.

The narration was good, She may take a minute to get into but I think she doesn't a great job.

Shadow Bound

I gotta say I wasn’t expecting each book in the series to be a different couple but boy am I glad it was.

Kori is a character you won’t soon forget her story is powerful and heart breaking. But soo sweet too because the love she finds is unbreakable.

I really can’t say much without giving a lot away but just know that this book is probably going to be my favorite of the series.

I again loved the narration and can’t wait to dive in to book 3

Must read for UF or PNR fans

This is a fantastic series and this book is the best (IMO) in the series. More UF than PNR, this book has a lot of adult-content in terms of foul language and gruesome scenes rather than sexual content. The world building is not overly complex because the author limits the area in which the story takes place and the accessories in the story are normal everyday objects. The paranormal comes from the special powers each person may possess and the main plot of the story revolves around what would happen if those powers could be exploited in a mafia-style way. The story is written with both main character's POV with each chapter switching from Kori to Ian.

Kori is a badass, a foul mouth petite blond with a nasty right-hook. She is fierce and loyal when it comes to those she cares most about even as her reputation paints her as a ruthless killer. When the first scene of the book opens, Kori is in a bad way, having fallen from grace due to the events of the previous book. As further humiliation of her failure, she is forced to act as chaperone and recruiter to Ian Holt, a man who could manipulate darkness. She is told by her boss, Jake Towers, to give Ian whatever he wants to get him to sign, even if it means her body.

Ian Holt has his own agenda, but when he is stuck with a beautiful woman with the ability to take down opponents much bigger than she and who doesn't say or do anything he expects her to, he is derailed in his mission and instead changes his plans to include the badass blond with the heart of gold.

This book is action-packed with a heart-stopping romance and characters so raw and bursting with emotions. The loyalty in this book is fierce and as mean as the main female is, you can't help but empathize with her. Also, the main male character is a treat. A definite keeper when you find a man who could love a strong woman without feeling inept.

A must read for any PNR and UF fan.

Narration
Narrator: Gabra Zackman
Performance: 5/5
Speed: 1.25x
Zackman created the perfect voice for Kori. Although the character is listed petite, she is a tough character with combat abilities and Zackman nails the sultry and tough voice. The pace of the read was perfect and the character distinctions were good. I listened with headphones and in the car and the consistency in the tone was perfect that I never had to adjust the volume.

Highly recommend. 💯

Rachel Vincent is by far my favorite author so this review may be a little biased.
Anyway I love this series. I was kind of bummed when I found out this book was more about Corey than Liv and Cam but boy was I wrong.
Shadow bound lives up to the expectations of the first book blood bound as well as the shifters series which came before. Ever other chapter is told by Corey and Ian. 10 for 10 I would buy this again. Love it.
As for the narration I wasn't a fan. Her voice is soooo monotone it's a good thing the story is lively or I would have fallen asleep.

I'm still disturbed, but absolutely hooked.

I love the intricate, sometimes twisted plot to be found in the books in this series. The books may be a bit dark, but I've definitely enjoyed them so far. I still love the narrator.

I think the hardest parts of the books for me to swallow is the lack of free will some of the characters face (even if they did build themselves voluntarily). Most characters seem to end up bound out of naivety (like Kenley), a fear for loved ones and/or a desire to protect those they love (like Kori), or flat out need or desperation (like Cam from Blood Bound, who needed medical care he couldn't afford but was given to him by the Tower syndicate in order to snare him into binding himself). The whole thing is just horrible to consider. On top of that, I can't imagine living in a world where I never told anyone my real name and made sure to never leave any traces of my blood anywhere lest either be used against me. Most of the skilled even carry around their own bottles of bleach at all times, just in case. It seems to be a world largely built around fear.

Kori and Ian find their HEA in a way. Things are not yet right in the world, but they've found happiness in each other. The book has no cliffhanger.

good book better narration than 1st

A solid good book, that built around the 1st but still left questions 2b answered. A very interesting world built by author.
