About this listen

We just lost our place at the top of the food chain. Man is just meat.

It is only when the bones of its prey are discovered in a remote Scottish glen that the majesty and power of one of nature’s most successful predators is truly revealed. As it strikes silently from the shadows and on nights shrouded in darkness, a small village falls under siege to a remarkable creature. For thousands of years mankind has had the upper hand but now - suddenly, violently, bloodily - the balance of power has shifted.

When an isolated wildlife research centre launches an investigation, it is soon discovered that something out of place has made the Highlands its home and set its sights on the quiet village of Cannich. It will hunt, it will kill, and it won’t let anything get in its way. Thomas Walker, a renowned wildlife specialist and former big game hunter, finds himself confronted with his past and an animal the likes of which he had never wanted to face again. As its devastating rampage goes unchecked and threatens his home, the woman he loves and his very way of life, an older and much more human adversary seeks him out. How long will any of them survive the presence of the beast in their shadow?

There are nearly 2,000 reported sightings of what have become known as mystery big cats across the UK every year. Some, such as the beasts of Bodmin and Dartmoor, have become infamous. Their origin and identity remain unknown. Shadow Beast, the new chiller from Luke Phillips, offers a terrifying and deadly explanation.

The shadows drip with blood!

This is a Creature/Beast story one must check out. It holds compelling storytelling emphasized even more so by the narrator. If you love great impressions, environmental settings, descriptive details not for the faint of heart and so much more this is a book for you looking forward to the next one!

So-so

I was expecting more but what I got wasn’t that bad. I will look up this author and see what else he has penned.

It seemed to end too soon. I like longer novels and don’t see how this one passed the temporal test. Non the less it had a little something that kept me interested , this the 4 star rating.

Meh

It wasn’t great writing and there weren’t any surprises. I think I had everything figured out in the first couple of hours. Don’t waste a credit.

excellent

Narration was top notch, and the story kept me enthralled. I'll be getting the next book in the series for certain and will be looking for this narrator again.

Beast

Interesting how story was told from beast perspective as well as the main human characters. Didn’t really need the story line of historic conflict between two male characters.

Chilling

The narrator brought the characters alive for me...especially the creature! I look forward to listening to him and this author's books.

Cujo takes the form of a Wildcat!

I have mixed feelings on this book and I am not quite sure where to start. This is the first book by Luke Phillips I have read or listened to and I found Shadow Beast to be just okay. This book definitely has the gore and thriller/chiller down, but personally for me it was a little too much gore. It's not that gore bothers me, it just seems the attacks were always similar making the scenes boring after a while although the ending of the book was great.

As for the Narrator, Andrew Pond, I liked his voice and found it easy to listen to. The reason I gave Andrew Pond two stars on his narration was because of two big reasons. First he was narrating way too fast and in doing so the different parts of the story, the point of view of the cat and the point of view from the humans, ran together making it difficult to follow the story at times. The other big thing that I found unpleasant was Andrew Pond was using these weird accents and voices, especially when he was narrating the cat scenes. All in all I liked the book, but I feel I might have enjoyed it more if I read it on my own.

Shadow Beast

Shadow Beast is a story that moves at a perfect pace. Giving the perspective of both beast and human. I appreciated the honest portrayal of instinct and majesty. This book was a remarkable surprise and I recommend it to adults and teens.
