About this listen

Former naval doctor Peter Crane is urgently summoned to a remote oil platform in the North Atlantic to help diagnose a bizarre medical condition spreading through the rig. But when he arrives, Crane learns that the real trouble lies far below on "Deep Storm", a stunningly advanced science-research facility built two miles beneath the surface on the ocean floor. The top-secret structure has been designed for one purpose: to excavate a recently discovered undersea site that may hold the answers to a mystery steeped in centuries of myth and speculation.

Sworn to secrecy, Dr. Crane descends to Deep Storm. A year earlier, he is told, routine drilling uncovered the remains of mankind's most sophisticated ancient civilization - the legendary Atlantis. But now that the site is being excavated, a series of disturbing illnesses has begun to affect the operation. As Crane is indoctrinated into the strange world of Deep Storm and commences his investigation, he begins to suspect that the covert facility conceals something more complicated than a medical mystery. The discovery of Atlantis might, in fact, be a cover for something far more sinister...and deadly.

Critic reviews

"Child delivers a well-crafted and literate science-fiction thriller." (Publishers Weekly)
"The story is imaginative and filled with wonder. Lovers of deep-sea adventure (and in particular fans of the James Cameron movie The Abyss or Michael Crichton's novel Sphere) will want to plunge into this one. (Booklist)

What a ride

This book has it all, mystery, action, science fiction. I listen to books in the car and this one had me sitting in parking lots trying to find a good place to pause. But I found my self just having to stop as this book unfolds in a way that will cause you to enjoy every minute of it.

A new author to me.

First time I've listened to this author's book and completely enjoyed it, if you like mystery and a little science thrown in you'll enjoy this as well.

Disjointed

Seems like you are held I. A bubble and the author did not know exactly where he was going.
Left you confused. Story needs to be developed more.

Almost

Interesting series of puzzling events. Sometimes the sense of waiting or anticipation is frustrating. Will there be another book or a series to explore the problem?

Wasn’t thrilled with narrator. Can’t fully explain;; his voice was melodic and I think a choppier harsher presentation might have suited the subject matter more. Pleasant enough for a different book.

Excellent and Suspenseful

Deep Storm has a great story line that keeps your attention through the entire book. It is a deep-sea adventure/mystery with twists and turns all around. Lincoln Child's descriptive story line keeps your mind visualizing the setting and wishing you were there to explore with the characters.

Suspenseful thriller.

A true "what if" that you will find difficult to not complete in one sitting.

Only a Meh for me…

Aeration was good, variety in the voices and timber- nothing that felt was annoying.

The over all storyline held interest thought it felt like a rehash of so many things that have come before.

spoiler alert

I enjoyed the twist, but was disappointed that there was no Atlantis. The author pulls from real history as well as legend to create an interesting story.

Another great book by Lincoln Child

Hold on to your hats and join Dr. Crane as he attempts to piece together the mystery. This book has everything: mystery, thrill, plot twists, sciFi, archeology, even a saboteur!

Lincoln Child once again delivers an amazing book that I just couldn’t put down!

The narrator was FANTASTIC!!!!
