About this listen

I grew up with them, the creatures of the night, the blood suckers, the monsters. I knew vampires before I could walk - not that I knew what they really were, just that they weren’t really like me.

I was human, just like my parents. And when I turned eighteen, I decided to work for the vampires after college, too. We had worked for their nest for over five generations, and I wanted to continue that tradition. But then, the master of the nest died. He’d practically raised me, my mother, my father, and everyone before us. He had looked at humans working for the nest as part of the nest. We were part of the family, even though we weren’t immortal or drank blood. He kept tight control, and accidents were so rare that I had never seen one happen.

The new master of the nest is not so kind or good at the job.

We need help. I need help. The new master is letting the vampires get out of control. Bodies are starting to pile up and even the other staff are at risk.

I’m Everly Abbott, and I need a solution to this before more people get killed. But, the solution might be more dangerous than the problem.

Great, and perhaps read this series first

This is not the first series from the Tribunale Archives that I listen to and perhaps I should have started with this one, as my idea of these vampires taken from descriptions, behaviors and how they talked had lead me to believe they wouldn’t be my cup of tea. How wrong have I been!!! I’ve enjoyed the new layers to this universe and the great narration!

Very rough start, but interesting ending.

I absolutely loved the Jacky Leon and Kaliya Sahni series from K.N. Banet from start to finish. This had a rough beginning. I wouldn't have continued if I hadn't seen another review saying it got better towards the end. The main character was in fear for her life for most of the book and I kept waiting for it to get better. Thankfully it did towards the end and makes me want to see how the next book goes. It has the potential to be a good series.

Bit of a rough start, but great finish.

I have noted this before in other first books in K.N Banet's series. She has a bit of trouble conveying introductory information in a natural sounding way. People having introducing themselves with their names, friend group, job titles and length of time that both friend group and job titles have been around isn't very natural sounding. Really needs to work on just doing info dumps via inner monologues.. Sounds better than "hi, Fred i am Everly, isn't it weird that we have known each other for ten years and have worked at the same job for all that time?" conveying info that everyone should already know just sounds weird, movies HAVE to do it, but books don't. Once you get past the first few chapters everything smooths out and starts to sound much more like actual people.
The book is.... a lot. Lol it is good, but part of me wishes that i would have waited until the second book came out , it would have been a nice breather after this one. Can't really say much, but wow is this book frustrating in a good way. Trust me if you listen/read the book that statement will make sense. It's not the world's best first book, but it does have me excited for more from this author and this series.

Can’t wait for the next book

The reason I gave it four instead of five was the reason others have already pointed out.But it’s okay I understand it was the first book. This is the background story. And although it had a slow start I still loved it.

Can’t wait for more!!!

This first Everly book starts out with things being pretty rough for Everly. She’s very likable & relatable though. I can’t wait to see where things go after that ending. Narrator did a great job too.

Dark and twisty with a hint of spice and promise

This book/series is different from the other series Banet has given us, but I have a feeling it’s going to be just as great. Because we don’t know much about vampires in the Tribunal Archives world, I kind of liked the slower pace of this first book. A lot happens in just this first book and rips through what I thought I knew about vamps. Once the info was given things were at the usual fast/fun pace. I’m excited to see what this side of Banet’s world will bring!

Twisted evil

I had to say twisted evil, because when you think you know where it's going, you rub into a new twist. The story starts out slower than other series in the Tribunal series, but there is a lot to learn. The last half of the story really gets you hooked with what will happen next. The narroator is wonderful and I can't wait until book 2 is on audio. Thank you Kristen for another great story, and thank you Elise for bringing Everly an audible voice!

A twist on the paranormal

This is a new kind of introduction into the vampire world, with a very satisfying ending. Yes it seems ‘high school-ish’ but its appropriate to the story line. I’m in my 60’s & enjoyed listening to it. Although I am not ‘chomping at the bit’ for the next one, I will definitely purchase it & plan on enjoying it too.
I enjoyed this book & I look forward to the next 8 in the series.
