It’s Mallory Atkinson’s first Christmas in Scotland. Victorian Scotland, that is. Also, as the twenty-first-century detective learns, Christmas really isn’t a thing in Victorian Scotland. Lady Inglis introduces Mallory to Dickens—the meeting of a lifetime—but in return she wants their help. She’s being blackmailed. Someone stole letters she wrote to another lover and is threatening to publish them.

Mallory isn’t sure what to make of Lady Inglis, but no woman deserves that, so she insists on taking the case with or without Gray’s help. Growing tension between them soon tells Mallory that Gray is hiding a secret of his own. She has until Hogmanay to uncover the blackmailer…and, hopefully, to put things right with Gray so they can enjoy the holiday together.

Another great little who dunnit. Really captures the essence of early Scottish life in Edinburgh.

Only complaint on the narration... why does she make Grey so hesitant sounding all the time.. in every book.. it's as if Duncan doesn't know what to say, always sounds awkward... otherwise Love It

I love Calories stories

I can see Edinburgh in my imagination. I cant wait to get to see it in person.

A Perfect Holiday Listen!

I just love Kelley Armstrong's novellas, and this one in particular was such a delight. It was perfectly seasonal, as I listened to the audiobook right after Christmas, and it was everything I could want from my favorite time-travelling, Victorian, mystery series.

The mystery itself was an interesting little case with just enough twists and turns that wrapped up nicely, and the characters it introduced were such a delight as well. I think that's what I loved the most about this one--just how much time we got to spend with Mallory and Gray, and Jack especially.

My only complaint (which isn't even really a complaint) is that the romantic tension is absolutely about to burst at this point. If these two don't get together in the next book, I may riot.

These stories are great little mysteries. KL arm strong is great I love her rip in time stories. They are great for Victorian lovers.

Great novella with the best side character!

This was highly intriguing to listen to. We often hear about Victorian Christmas elements and imagine how it would be applicable to our favorite historical adventures stories and it was delightfully done! We also learned more about Lady Inglis and how Duncan’s relationship with her ended.

Lovely Intallment

I love this series and loved hearing about Scottish holidays. It was lovely little mystery that brought some exciting background on the mysterious Gray doctor!

I Love This Series!

The characters in this series are wonderful! The story is fun and cozy and I look forward to each one!
In this novella, Mallory and Gray go on a bit of a, shall we say, awkward adventure to solve a mystery involving an ex lover. We get to learn a bit more about Gray's past and also get to meet Charles Dickens!
The Mallory and Gray adventures are just so much fun!
The narration was great, as always! Kate Handford does a fantastic job at bringing the characters to life as she has in each book thus far.
I look forward to the next book in this series! I would love an Isla/McCreadie novella too! 😏

the reading of the story

If you haven't read this series you're missing some great fun, mystery, time travel, history with a tinge of romance. I absolutely can't wait for the next one.

Ugh, boring and I could not finish

I have no interest in porn, Victorian or otherwise! I really enjoyed the first book, but this one went into the weeds - or better stated, into the dump!
