Acerca de esta escucha

Casey Duncan is a homicide detective with a secret: When she was in college, she killed a man. She was never caught, but he was the grandson of a mobster, and she knows that someday this crime will catch up to her.

Casey's best friend, Diana, is on the run from a violent, abusive ex-husband. When Diana's husband finds her, and Casey herself is attacked shortly after, Casey knows it's time for the two of them to disappear again.

Diana has heard of a town made for people like her, a town that takes in people on the run who want to shed their old lives. You must apply to live in Rockton, and if you're accepted it means walking away entirely from your old life and living off the grid in the wilds of Canada: no cell phones, no Internet, no mail, no computers, very little electricity, and no way of getting in or out without the town council's approval.

As a murderer Casey isn't a good candidate, but she has something they want: She's a homicide detective, and Rockton has just had its first real murder. She and Diana are in. However, soon after arriving, Casey realizes that the identity of a murderer isn't the only secret Rockton is hiding - in fact she starts to wonder if she and Diana might be in even more danger in Rockton than they were in their old lives.

An edgy, gripping crime audiobook from best-selling urban fantasy writer Kelley Armstrong, City of the Lost boldly announces a major new player in the crime fiction world.

I purchased City of the Lost during the February Audible first of a series sale with apprehension because I have tried books by Kelley Armstrong in the past only to be disappointed by the horror, supernatural, paranormal, and fantasy aspects. Armstrong has been a highly regarded best selling author for more than 15 years as she published an average of more than 3 novels annually. Audible listener Shelley's very positive reviews of this novel and the other two in the Casey Duncan persuaded my to listen to City of the Lost. I'm glad I did because this is a wonderful suspense mystery/thriller. Theresa Plummer's narration is superb.

I would not want to live in the fictional Canadian Yukon town of Rockton, but it makes a good story.

Author Kerllery Armstrong surprised me!

80% of it was five stars across-the-board. It's a slow starter, but then gets going well. True, the first person presentation takes a little while to get used to and can get bothersome, but it works fine until the last hour or so when the writer decides to make it into a Harlequin romance novel. That and the way she needs to wrap it up in an Adrian Monk-like "Here's what happened..."way makes it less for me.

Could have been great...

Therese Plummer was amazing in her performance of this book. The story was okay, a bit predictable yet somehow not predictable at the same time. It was, without a doubt, entertaining so if you're looking for a listen that will occupy and absorb your attention while not changing your life this is a good book for you.

Fantastic Narration

This story is a little hokey. But if you want to listen to something with half an ear, it will do. Some of the characters get confusing because they have such small parts and are never developed. Three stars. The rating app doesn’t seem to allow stars to be removed very easily once they have been touched.

I really enjoyed this book and am excited that it is a pretty long series. I devoured it pretty quickly.

Casey is a police detective with a tough past. In order to protect her friend and potentially find herself, she moves to a secret town in the remote Yukon territory. People don't just show up in this town, you have to have a reason to be there and be vetted. The town is in need of a detective because people are disappearing and there have been some deaths.

Casey is a strong, smart character who has overcome a lot in her life. The pace of the book is good, and the characters are well-developed. There were even some surprised as things developed. With about two hours to go, I figured out who the main perpetrator was, but that didn't diminish how the story unfolded. Looking forward to diving into book number 2.

Happy that this is the first in a series

This book was so refreshing! There are so many books in this genre that are just a rehashing of the same of story. This author found a way to come up with a truly original and fantastic idea! The concepts are slightly far fetched, but with a slight suspension of reality and a few blind eyes...the possibility of a "City Of The Lost" is not hard to imagine.

The characters are great, and the plot moves along quite nicely. It kept my attention riveted throughout. The main story revolves around a man and a woman who are broken in their own ways, and how they try to find something worth living for in each other. Of course, at the same time there are murderers, villains, heroes and suspense plentifully on display in the story. I hate reviews that give too much of the story away. I am not doing a synopsis of the book...the producers have already done that. I will leave my comments as they should be left and say that this was a wonderful story, and I recommend it completely.

Excellent narration as well, with consistent voicing of characters. I thought that the narrator really understood what the author was trying to say, which is always a great thing. A great listen!

Such an original idea!
