Publisher's summary

Once Upon a Time,
There was a king who passed.
He left behind two sons,
one beloved and one outcast.
The older of the two was set to take the throne,
but before he could, he had to find a queen to call his own.
The younger one was known to be unruly and unhinged.
The chosen queen was warned to keep far away from him.
Beautiful and cunning, in the light is where she stayed.
But late at night, it was the shadowed lands in which she played.
Mistakes were made and secrets forged;
forgetting duty and her sense.
And while the new king had her hand,
her heart belonged to the scarred prince.

Scarred is a dark royal romance. It is not a retelling, and it is not fantasy. It has mature situations and themes which may be considered triggers for some. Listener discretion is advised.

Great story, narration meh

Enjoyed the story, unfortunately I couldn’t connect with the narrators. I’m picky with my narrators though.

aidible

I enjoyed the book graciously, but the Audibile within the book option didn't work I had to actually download audible to play narration. Which we terrible. Maybe my signal maybe not hope they fix option. The author is wonderful with her craft can't wait to see her to bring other stories to life. Great Read.

AMAZING!!! *Spoilers*

I cannot even explain to you how good this book is. I thought Hooked was my favorite book? No, Scarred is so, so much better! The Lion King was so brilliant of an idea, and the references to the movie are everywhere. I really enjoyed Michaels death scene at the end. Remember how in the movie, when Mufasa was hanging from the cliff? And Scar says “Long live the king” and pushes him off? Well in Scarred Tristan says “I would say, long live the king, but that wouldn’t be true.” The thought process that McIntire had to go through to come up with lines like that must’ve been very hard😂. It’s things like that for me, the little details.

To be honest, though, I wasn’t a big fan of Sara. She was just a regular old character that I never really got attached to. Plus my focus was mainly on Tristan🥵. The tattoos, along with his jet-black hair and rings got to me.

All in all it was a FANTASTIC READ! Read it in three sittings. Can’t wait to read Wretched and then Twisted in 2023!

Much better than the first book!

I think this story is better than the first book in this series. It's loosely based on The Lion King and is full of court intrigue, evil plots and a searing slow burn romance. I loved it. Neither of the main characters are "good people" and thus their decisions are flawed in some circumstances which is actually refreshing. The overarching theme about how society treats those whom are abnormal from polite society was a really fascinating spin on the whole tale.

Quick synopsis: the FMC's father is murdered so she and her uncle hatch a plan to have her marry the king so she can kill their family line from within. The MMC's is the younger brother of the king whose father was mysteriously murdered. Being the younger and more academic and artistically inclined, he is tortured and ridiculed his whole life by his brother and his court. But when his brother's future wife arrives, all his plotting and revenge plans get infinitely more complicated as he becomes swept up in her orbit. She is lying about who and what she is and he is intrigued by every depraved piece of her soul that begins to show itself.

This is a great option for those people who loved Poppy from FBAA.

The audio was OK. But I had a hard time vibing with the male voice actor, he didn't do other character voices very well and even the female voice actor was pretty meh.

Left me wanting more

This was a good story. I think it could have been more developed and been a series. I liked the characters.

Decent reading

seems to me it is borderline a retelling despite being stated its not, there are too many similarities and quotes taken directly from the movie buuuuut it’s still good.

good

love the concept and it was good but for me, I like the story to move a little faster but it was still really good.

the narrators were ok but… someone like jason clarke and I can’t think of her name atm (will update) would have brought it to life more for me.

Fantastic reimagining

I loved this book. I know who each character was meant to represent, though I do still wish the author kept the original names. But it was still really good, I loved the story that was told.
