About this listen

From the NYT bestselling author of the Hell Divers series, comes a brand-new look at the future in this thrilling sci-fi military novella.

A hostile world that will doom the human race … or save it, if a few survivors can unlock its secrets …

After waking up with no memories in an underground facility, a squad of elite soldiers and scientists must try to recall what their mission is. But first, it’s a race against the clock to escape their collapsing bunker before it becomes a tomb. Topside, an even more dangerous world of fiery skies and desolate terrain awaits.

As they venture out to explore their strange new surroundings, bits of memory begin to return, though nothing can prepare them for the strange forces protecting this bleak landscape. Worse, it seems that not everyone on the team wants the mission—whatever it is—to succeed. One thing is certain: the world they remember is gone, destroyed by war or natural disaster. Soon, they will learn that they must unlock the past if they are to have any hope of ever seeing the future.

Please note, this is a novella, and is the introduction to a brand-new NSS universe.

I'd love more!

Seriously loved this short story. I think it would have made a great series, but I'll take what I can get from NSS! Awesome book! Definitely worth the listen! Edoardo Ballerini is a fantastic narrator!

Fantastic!

While a short novella, Nicholas Sansbury Smith and Edoardo Ballerini do an amazing job of immersing you into this new world. Each character is distinct and intriguing. It’s the perfect blend of Sci-Fi and mystery. I really hope you continue the story with a full series. I can’t get enough!

Excellent novella! I hope there’s more.

Really enjoyed reading this novella. Hooked me in right away and it kept me guessing. I really hope the author creates a series based on the novella!

About 15 hours too short!

Always love an NSS story, and this one is no different. Loved meeting to the new characters and world. Looking forward to the rest!

Refreshing story Line

So many twist and turns and unexpected happenings. I was on the edge of my seat. Can’t wait for more. Initially I wasn’t impressed with the voice actor but giving it some time really helped me get into the rhythm not the voice actor and enjoy the book. Can’t wait for more

Outstanding

Great story w/ twists outta the wazoo…. Wish it were longer, but small packages and all that…. Hoping this is a prequel to a new series…

Great new world

A few little twists that came as a surprise, but it’s not the mystery that kept me hanging around. NSS can take a four hour story and make it feel like a series—and I mean that in a good way.

Red, Dallas, Striker. They are characters we could feel. If he did that with four hours, what could he do with four books.

Worth grabbing.

Used to RC Bray with Smith. But it feels like the Bray train has left the station for me lately. Edoardo nailed this performance and I’d be happy to see him become the new voice for projects with Nicholas Sansbury Smith.

Bravo.

Narration sells a familiar tale

Another mystery built on lost memories that succeeds by virtue of the willingness of soldiers to blindly follow orders. Haven’t we all learned by now the perils of letting the A.I. direct the mission?
Reminds me of the movie Oblivion. The shorter length and outstanding narration is what makes this cook.
