About this listen

In the vein of Downton Abbey, Jane Austen's beloved but unfinished masterpiece - often considered her most modern and exciting novel - gets a spectacular second act in this tie-in to a major new limited television series.

Written only months before Austen's death in 1817, Sanditon tells the story of the joyously impulsive, spirited, and unconventional Charlotte Heywood and her spiky relationship with the humorous, charming (and slightly wild!) Sidney Parker. When a chance accident transports her from her rural hometown of Willingden to the would-be coastal resort of the eponymous title, it exposes Charlotte to the intrigues and dalliances of a seaside town on the make, and the characters whose fortunes depend on its commercial success. The twists and turns of the plot, which takes viewers from the West Indies to the rotting alleys of London, exposes the hidden agendas of each character and sees Charlotte discover herself...and ultimately find love.

Gut Wrenching

Not the kind of ending I like to see... how dreadfully sad. Real life is hard.

A very moving love story!

I loved the narrator, she did a wonderful job! The book was very good, I enjoyed it! But it was not the way I wanted it to end! I watched the movie as well, and loved seeing the characters come to life!

Not a Jane Austin ending.

I believe Charlotte's friend Susan would have helped in the end. no need for Mrs. C.

WORST ENDING *spoilers*

I think Jane Austen would have hated the ending. Jane Austen always wanted her characters to have a happy ending unlike her own love story, so the fact that they didn’t end up together was gut wrenching. I hope the BBC series doesn’t end the same way.

Almost word for word as the PBS version.

But stops at the end if the 1st season. A few more details here and there but pretty much dead-on the PBS series presentation which I absolutely loved!

a must read

Loved this story, who knew Jane had this much spunk in her. I was sad it ended, I wanted it to go on another 5 chapters or more.

Good narration

The narrator is good. The story is most definitely NOT the Sanditon novel I read years ago and was hoping to find again. It’s still an ok story, but I wouldn’t call it great, and it doesn’t seem very Austen-ish at all.

Love Love Love!!!!!

I have had the opportunity to watch the TV series of this version as well, and I just have to say I love it so very much. Regardless of what happens with the show I know COVID19 has affected so many things and thrown off everyones timeliness, I truly hope this author will continue to write their version of story in book/audiobook Form for us fans that absolutely love Jane Austin ❤ and now your version of one of her books.

Jane Austen?

Are we certain this is Jane Austen’s writing? The cleverness, wit, and text typical of Austen were missing. It read more like a gentrified Harlequin than an Austen piece — with a hurried and disappointing finish.
Either it isn’t Austen, or she was too ill to build and polish her story.
