About this listen

Natalia Ross, a shy small-town girl fresh out of college, moves to New York to pursue her dreams as a journalist and lands the job girls would die for. Hired as the assistant to Scarlett Stone, the high-profile, fabulously successful editor of the fashion blog Stitch. Scarlett, as enigmatic as she is rich and powerful, is merciless and demanding of Natalia and the rest of her employees. Even still, Natalia is intrigued by Scarlett’s unrelenting ways and the two find themselves in an unconventional physical affair.

Through Scarlett’s depraved tastes in romance, Natalia experiences a personal awakening that begins to change her life forever and the two fall deeply in love. But their delicate balance of work and play is challenged when Scarlett and Natalia’s complicated and dangerous pasts begin to catch up with them.

As both lives begin to unravel, Natalia and Scarlett discover that those with the power aren’t always the ones in control.

Interestong but very good!

I thought this book was good all the way thru. Was interesting to see it all unravel and come to climax. The main characters had good chemistry. The secondary characters surprised me as well. They all had good depth. Overall, great book. Highly recommend it!

Good book

Enjoyed listening to this one. Big fan of Magnolia Robbins. This one is a bit different than her other books but still very good. The BDSM scenes were well written and very hot. Wasn't sure if I would like the narrator at first but turned out her voice suits the story pretty well. Her reading tempo was a little fast but I quickly became accustomed to it.

F/F Fifty shades meets The Devil meets Prada...

I kinda went into this one with high expectations but was disappointed with the lack of chemistry between the heroine and her love interest. I didn't find Scarlet all that sexy or a proper dominant. The heroine did a lot of topping from the bottom which contradicts a dominants role in a D/s relationship. Scarlet just wasn't a dominant in her vanilla life, only her sex life so it was super hard to connect to the BDSM element of the book. I think I would've rated it higher if it wasn't an erotic romance and maybe instead contemporary because the DMP likeness was actually kind of cool. The story was engaging enough to get me to read to the end but i was expecting a lot more, especially since there are few f/f BDSM romances that have an actual storyline like this one did.

Overall the synopsis and cover pulled me in enough to purchase and I'll probably read more from this author because she puts in the effort to make f/f audiobooks, which is my preferred method of reading books.

Ice Queen time!

Safe Words is like a sapphic reimagining of The Devil Wears Prada. As the name implies, safe words are integral to the story and gives the book a comforting vibe as it applies to the MC’s. There is a subplot with abusive ex so obviously that part isn’t as comforting but it serves a purpose nonetheless. The story includes elements of BDSM but this isn’t erotica. It’s more of a standard romance level of steaminess so don’t let the light BDSM scare you off even if it’s not your usual cup of tea.
