The Echoes of Fate, a Prophecy Uttered Unto the World a Thousand Years Ago, Cannot Be Denied....

Mankind has lorded over the land of Illian for a thousand years, building on the ruins left by the elves, as if it were their birthright. A thousand years is a long time for an immortal race to see the truth of things, a truth that has remained unsaid for a millennium - elves are superior. They are faster, stronger, and connected to the magical realm in a way that man could never grasp. Illian should belong to them.

Unaware of the shadow that looms in the east, the six kingdoms of man are fractured, unallied, and clawing at each other's gates for more power.

This isn't just war set to ravage the land, but a slaughter - the world of man cannot hope to survive.

Thrown into the heart of this war is a man known by many names; an Outlander of the wilds, an assassin, a ranger. Asher was born a thousand years ago, to a life he doesn't remember. Forty years of brutal training and killing for money has beaten the earliest years of his life away, leaving his ties to the oldest of evils a mystery to all....

Should have listened to other reviews

The story was good, it kept me interested and there were some surprising twists. The only frustration was the narrator did not do a good job differentiating between characters. With the names of the characters are very similar it was hard to follow all of the action. Overall it was a good story and I’m glad that I bought it but it’s the same narrator does any of the other books I probably won’t do audible I’ll buy the print version

Unfortunate choice of reader

Oh how sad that this book, didn't have a better reader! Had to stop, rewind and listen multiple times, as the way it was read made it hard to follow the story.

Good story in need of an Editor

I lost interest in most of the cardboard characters in the first few hours. They are all archetypes cribbed from Tolkien.
Most irritating was the repeated, build to a climax and... cut away to an entirely different area and scene. Over and over to the point where all tension was lost and cohesion followed shortly thereafter

On To the Next Book

Finally a story about Elves and Humans interacting and co-mingling. Im definitely reading the next book in the series.

Steven Brand, as always, is a superb entertainer.

Lush, epic fantasy

Great (huge) story with a lot going on. love Asher's and Nathaniel's characters. There are a few mature scenarios, but not too over the top or gratuitous. I told myself, there's no way they can top this/how could they possibly follow up with a second+ book, but they did lol. Give it a go.

Damn......

Soooo good. It took a minute to get use to the character names and the groups but after this book is amazing and I can’t wait to finish the saga though I will be sad. The world is amazing and I LOVE the lore. This book goes right next to Wise Mans Fear, and Kings Dark Tidings in my heart.

great listen spectacular narrator.

the book was fantastic for the most part. the only thing that got under my skin was how the main character would go from formidable to pathetic on several occasions. but the high quality narrator made up for that with his performance.
