About this listen

The battle-scarred star carrier Flying Dutchman is finally on her way back to Earth, after an exceptionally successful series of missions that have once again saved the world. The ship needs a serious refit, and her exhausted crew just wants a break from constant clandestine warfare against a vicious and superior enemy. Wishes come true, right? Not for the Merry Band of Pirates.

Great Series but Formulaic

I love this series but it's getting very formulaic. The stories about the Flying Dutchman (as opposed to the stories centered on Paradise) follow a very set pattern. Impossible problem-Skippy and Joe insult each other-Huge set back- more insults- deus ex machina-new problem- Audible hopes you enjoyed this program.
If it weren't for the amazing world building I dont know if I would have made it through this one. Hoping the next one breaks the pattern.

Craig delivers... again! R.C. rocks too

Well, for all the stupid monkeys familiar with the exploits of Joe and Skippy, I'll summarize with the statement that I both love and HAAAAAATE Craig for this book - love him because he delivered a book on par with my lofty expectations of the Expeditionary Force series, because he dropped subtle and not-so-subtle scifi reference easter eggs all over the place - AGAIN, love him because he hinted at some things likely to be revealed in the next book or two with very interesting one-liners from Skippy that you'd miss if you weren't paying close attention (like when he says near the end of the book the Maxholx musings about the humans would confirm some things he was wondering about the origins of humans himself). That last one is also why I currently HAAAAATE you, Craig. I have to wait months before I can even READ what happens next in Armageddon - forget about how much longer beyond THAT until I can hear Bob's vocal awesomeness bring it to life! What shall I do with myself for the next few months?! I really hope I don't bite my nails clean off in anxiety-induced manic anticipation.

For those not exposed to Skippy the Magnificent, Colonel Joe, or the Merry Band of Pirates, and with no context for what the HELL I just wrote above, go read Columbus Day by Craig Alanson. You'll thank me later, shmaybe. Or, you'll hate your life, and me, for the new addiction you have no control over. Totally my fault.

You won’t be disappointed!

I stumbled upon the first one of these books on Amazon, over a year ago, and immediately fell in love with Joe, Skippy, and the gang, and now, I anxiously await the release of the audiobook version of each new book in the series and binge-listen and then can’t wait for the next! All of Craig Alanson’s books are absolutely delightful and I regularly find myself chuckling out loud (which is not something I commonly do with books) at the antics of the crew, etc. Start from the beginning of the series and give Mr. Alanson a go. You’ll be glad you did (Aces and the Ascendant series are really fun, too). 🤗🤗🤗

I can listen to Joe and Skippy all day long.

The only bad part is now I have to wait for some more awesomeness. Shmaybe!
