Acerca de esta escucha

As featured on Deadliest Catch

A fourth-generation fisherman, Jake Anderson, grew up in the rich fishing environment of Anacortes, Washington. At age 17, Jake began salmon fishing in Bristol Bay, Alaska, and by the age of 25 he was crab fishing in the heart of the Bering Sea. Soon after, Jake became a deckhand on the F/V Northwestern and joined the popular television series Deadliest Catch. As an integral part of the show, Jake is known for his hardworking nature that has allowed him to evolve from greenhorn to licensed captain.

Aside from fishing, Jake has a harrowing story that has yet to be told. As an avid skateboarder, Jake aspired to become a professional until he was sidelined by injury, addiction, and homelessness. After relentlessly battling back, he was then confronted with the untimely losses of his sister, father, and mentor, Phil Harris. But with depth and maturity, Jake persevered. In his debut book, Relapse, Jake serves as an inspiration as he candidly shares his private journey to overcome tragedy.

Accurately told and well written!
I was raised in the same small town as Jake and have known him since I was 10. Even though I wouldn’t consider us more of familiar acquaintances, I’ve only known him to be funny, kind hearted and always quite determined to master anything he involved himself in. He was always naturally talented. I have always recognized and admired his relentless self discipline and ability to push past the difficult times.
His story reads exactly as I knew him. I’m so glad he has allowed his traumas make him better in a healthy way.
He will be a phenomenal dad and I’m certain Keith is so proud of him.

An inspiring transformation

this book is so inspirational I've been struggling with addiction for over 20 years now. I'm starting to realize finding good support is probably the only way I can beat this. Thank you Jake

The honesty melted with vulnerability is a blessing in disguise whether you read or listen to Jake Andersons life up to 2013. His self-awareness, even in addiction and lack of self-worth, brought forth an appeal of kinship. Behind the cameras, his candid subjective evaluation resonated with me deeply. Though his life is not the same as mine I connected to his struggles. In some ways, I can empathize as a brother of guilt, shame, and the perpetual existence of one day at a time. The book is more the substance abuse. It's essence lies in truth, human connection, owning mistakes & fixing them, moving forward not backwards, and no one has to be lost. He tells a humble tale of hope.

The reviews judging his tale as "ok writing" does a dishonor to the author and any author being this vulnerable. I find this book profoundly inspiring and a beacon for others to emulate.

Even if you are a fan of the Deadliest Catch, reading or listening to Jakes written voice gives you a in depth insight into the mind of a person who found self-worth through those that loved him. The strength of his faith, family, and friends is proof that ones will power can be lifted to come out of the ashes.

Thank you, Jake. Be blessed!

An honest memoir!
