About this listen

A New York Times best seller!

They burned her home.

They stole her brother and sister.

But vengeance is following.

Shy South hoped to bury her bloody past and ride away smiling, but she'll have to sharpen up some bad old ways to get her family back, and she's not a woman to flinch from what needs doing. She sets off in pursuit with only a pair of oxen and her cowardly old step father Lamb for company. But it turns out Lamb's buried a bloody past of his own. And out in the lawless Far Country the past never stays buried.

Their journey will take them across the barren plains to a frontier town gripped by gold fever, through feud, duel and massacre, high into the unmapped mountains to a reckoning with the Ghosts. Even worse, it will force them into an alliance with Nicomo Cosca, infamous soldier of fortune, and his feckless lawyer Temple, two men no one should ever have to trust....

Red Country takes place in the same world as the First Law trilogy, Best Served Cold, and The Heroes. This novel also represents the return of Logen Ninefingers, one of Abercrombie's most beloved characters.

Everytime I read Joe Abercrombie I am surprised at how much I enjoy his books. If that seems a strange statement then understand that I am not usually a fan of this type of storytelling.
The characters are real not overblown like most in this genre.
I found myself laughing and wanting to remember quotes from the characters.
The action and interaction in this book never left me bored or allowed my mind to wander.
You will be surprised at how many characters you recognize if you read his other books and if you are a new reader you won't be lost but references will drive you to pick up his other books.
I will be looking forward to see what Joe Abercrombie comes up with next.

Joe Abercrombie is in top form.

This novel was fantastic! I read this book last after reading everything else and I always wondered what became of old Logan Ninefingers. This book was anything but predictable. Loved it from open to close.

My head went flying

If you loved the first law trilogy and the 2 other stand alone books then this one will certainly not disappoint. best to go in blind and you'll guaranteed be hooked right off in the beginning of the book.

Bloody beautiful

A mix between the Searchers and Blood Meridian. Somehow Joe Abercrombie has crafted a grim western out of his grim medieval setting. Full of his amazing character building, good people doing terrible things, and terrible people doing worse. Nine-fingers is back, along the usual carnage that goes with him. The western setting is a nice change is of pace.

If you're familiar with his other works, you'll know what to expect; though mr. abercrombie has made a habit of subverting expectations. All in all, I can't stop reading his work and this was no disappointment.

Another glimpse into the world of the First Law

I listened to this book, as well as the associated series, at least 4 or 5 times and I never tire of it. A top notch narrator, who really adds a personality to the characters, and a story that simply is superb.
My only regret is that this would seem to be the end of this particular line of stories.

excellent

This was my Favorite! Ties up many loose ends, and was a great listen

Fantastic!

The Bloody Nine Fingers has spend the recent past hiding as a meek farmer watching over his "step" children. They don't know his past. Then all hell breaks loose, someone has kidnapped two of the children, killed friends and burned down the farm. With the help of his older, tough "step" daughter they go after the kidnappers.

With limited mention of the Union and the Maji this story stands well on it's own. Well read with good charater development.

In the end Nine Fingers knows he can't hide from his past. Good lead in to another story.

Deja vu all over again
