Publisher's summary

A suspicious death in a small town reawakens Izzie’s long-dormant itch for digging up the truth.

When Izzie Di Sante’s dream career as an investigative reporter hit a roadblock, she traded her press pass for an apron and returned home to manage the family restaurant. However, some things are impossible for Izzie to ignore. Like when the details surrounding the death of a long-time acquaintance don’t add up.

She tells herself it’s her overactive imagination. Except the police report and circumstances reawaken the itch to uncover the truth—or in this case, the killer. Can she solve the case and follow her dream while managing her family restaurant?

This is a prequel to the Izzie Di Sante Mysteries.

Yummy appetizer for the series.

This audio book is highly entertaining. Izzy and her sister are very likeable and relatable characters. Reawakening the Itch is a great cozy mystery even though it lacks the zany humor I usually enjoy. I know it's a short book but the identity of the killer was way to obvious for me. I highly recommend this book for the characters and atmosphere. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

A very good book

I enjoyed the book and believe it to be well written and well read/preformed (I don’t know what the proper term is for a person who records an authors book) but reminds me a whole lot of Avery Shaw Mysteries by Amanda M. Lee

Great book

Izzie and her sister, Chloe, work at the family restaurant. Chloe’s best friend is murdered and Izzie has an itch from her days as an investigative reporter telling her there was more to the story.

I like Izzie and Chloe’s closeness as sisters. Izzie is a strong, intelligent woman. I love how she handles herself. It was a quick read with a satisfying ending. I look forward to listening to more of this series.

Another great cozy mystery series

I listened to 3 of the Izzie Di Dante Mayteries and loved all of them. All 3 do stand on their own but I recommend reading them in order. Crista Nardi writes a great cozy mystery leaving you wondering who could have done it. I really enjoy her writing.

The narration by Janelle V Bennett is excellent. She does a great job with the different characters.

I will listen to these two again.

Basic introduction to the series

I’ll take this prequel as an introduction to the characters. I don’t think the murder mystery was super interesting or original but it did serve its purpose in letting us know who the characters are. I hope the next books have more twists and character development

Suspenseful prequel with engaging characters

Izzy and her sister Chloe are vibrant characters with quite different personalities, yet they seem to mesh with each other to make everything work. Their friends and staff add depth and create a great support system.

Izzy’s parents opened a restaurant the same year she was born, so she and Chloe grew up working in the family business. Chloe loved food and wanted to go to culinary school, but Izzy had her dreams set on investigative journalism. She was working as a freelance journalist in the city while working at another restaurant when their mom got sick. Izzy came home to help manage the restaurant but when both mom and dad died, she promised their father to keep the family business alive.

Chloe’s best friend is killed in an apparent home invasion, but things don’t feel right to Izzy, who puts her journalism skills to work. The main detective on the case seems to be leaning away from the home invasion angle, but there are very few clues to show otherwise.

This is a cozy mystery in that there are no sex scenes, bad language, or in your face violence, but the main character is intelligent, pretty stable, well adjusted. and she doesn’t blindly rush into danger. When they stumble upon clues overlooked by the police, no one pockets them nor covers them in fingerprints, but mostly leaves them where they were found, and calls the cops. I really love that Izzy is no pushover, When a friend she is dating tries to make her into someone she’s not, Izzy firmly stands up for herself. She doesn’t cower under his maleness, nor does she go overboard when she points out that she’s an adult with her own opinions, not a child to be groomed.

I figured out the culprit early on, but it was still enjoyable to watch the story unfold and to figure out why the murder occurred. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.

I enjoyed the narration of this story. She did an excellent job, in my opinion. Her voice was well modulated and pleasant to hear. The tempo added to the suspenseful nature of this book.

I received this in a giveaway by the author, in exchange for my honest opinion.

Intriguing Whodunnit

The author wove an intriguing story that deepens along the way from family, friendships and food to a murder mystery. It's very good. Good plot. Good characters. My mind went different ways on whodunit. And the narrator is so easy to listen to, and I have listened to lots. The food descriptions from the restaurant owned by the sisters made me hungry at times which I didn’t mind at all. More tales from the restaurant owner / crime writer coming up so I’m sure this book series will keep me well fed.
