About this listen

RITA Award Winner, Best Contemporary Single Title, 1994

This deliciously scandalous novel tells us the secrets of the reigning queens of television talk shows, Deanna Reynolds and Angela Perkins.

Their high-staked rivalry, fought with public smiles and private betrayals, is more than a ratings competition. It becomes an off-screen war when Deanna replaces Angela both on the air and behind the scenes with Angela's former lover after Angela moves to the big time in New York.

Angela's anger at her former protégé escalates from bitterness to vengeance. And an anonymous fan's admiration crosses the line into obsession. Only one woman will emerge with her life in this battle of ego and passion.

intriguing

A very suspenseful edge of your seat romance novel. As normal , Nora Roberts does not disappoint.

Very Good 5 Stars

Long yes, very good read though. I will never look at news or talk shows the same again. I thought the writer wrote very good characters and great plot lines. I was never bored with this book.

Romance Intensifies

I like this one for lots of reasons. It's classic Nora so it's good. But this one has a romance continuing and intensifying over time. Usually, romance only lasts for a short while then marriage. It's over. This story shows romance continues, grows, intensifies over time. It's marriage without the ceremony. Plus it's good suspense.

The Narrator Ruined The Book

Private Scandals was my favorite Nora Roberts book until Julie Finneran ruined it with her horrible narration. I honestly didn't think she was as bad as most of the reviewers said but, as the book progressed, the narration just got worse. She didn't know how to articulate (I don't know if that's the right word) different emotions. Whether the character was scared, happy, or mad they all sounded the same. The narrator pretty much ruined all of the characters which, in turn, ruined the book. Private Scandals is a great book but, it's a horrible audiobook. I wouldn't recommend the audio version at all.

enjoyable

I enjoyed this book, but it did drag in some places. I think I would have enjoyed it more if the narrator was able to differentiate more between the characters. At times, I couldn't remember who was talking. Otherwise, it was a fun "listen".

Not Bad

What made the experience of listening to Private Scandals the most enjoyable?

I like audio books as a whole enjoyable over reading them because it allows me to plow through more books. Being able to listen to them means I can listen in the car, do house work, or just about anything else without having to stop and neglect anything.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the beginning of the book. I was so drawn in since the first page. It was exciting, I didn't know what was going on, and I couldn't wait to find out more. Then it started from the beginning which made me want to listen even more just to find out why the first scene of the book played like that.

What three words best describe Julie Finneran’s performance?

tolerable at best

Any additional comments?

This story itself was alright. The narration wasn't the best. Sometimes the emotions portrayed by Julie Finneran just didn't match up to the emotions I would have picked or thought she have been picked. If Deanna was angry, she almost sounded whinny. I think this book would have done better with a different narrator.

Poor Narration

Would you consider the audio edition of Private Scandals to be better than the print version?

No. The narrator simply reads the book instead of reading a story.

What other book might you compare Private Scandals to and why?

Any Nora Roberts book has the same story style. The story is great, and classically Nora. I enjoy the print version.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator sounds like she is either reading an instruction manual or reading a children's novel.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I enjoyed the story, but could not lose myself in the story due to the narrator never delivering the words as a story.

Any additional comments?

This is the first time I have come across a narrator on this site that I will actively avoid. I will not purchase and other audio books narrated by Julie Finneran.

Good story ruined by poor narration

Nora Robert's story line is great but narrator ruins it. Don't waste money on it!
