New York Times-bestselling authors are talking about.

Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.

More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia’s teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that’s cruelly ripped open when Claire’s husband is killed.

The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: What could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago … and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.

Powerful, poignant, and utterly gripping, packed with indelible characters and unforgettable twists, Pretty Girls is a masterful novel from one of the finest writers working today.

Included with this gripping thriller is Karin Slaughter’s chilling short story “Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes.”

First of all, yes I would recommend the book and it is well worth a credit. Secondly, the performance was OUTSTANDING! As many reviewers said, yes, it is graphic, violent and loaded with profanity. If you are tender hearted this book is not for you and definitely not for young readers. While I was listening I kept thinking, wow Ms. Slaughter has really put a lot of hours into this book, research and WORK!!! The book is a bit long, but not exhaustingly so. ALL The characters will draw you in, so many layers to the story and it seems it doesn't end. Some cons were how badly some characters got hurt and kept on going which would physically not be possible. The story truly weaves how crime affects many people and how some people overcome and others just fall deeper into this. It was a page turner for me.

Other reviews are correct, this book is very graphic at times. It suits the story though, so I didn't mind so much.

The story itself is great. I loved the relationship between all the sisters. I've already recommended it to friends.

Very good read

Loved it. Harsh at some points but totally worth it. Sometimes it was a bit wordy, but hey, a good story needs a lot of words.

I felt like a pendulum reading this book. I went from being bored or the story dragging to being on the edge of my seat and not able to stop listening. I enjoyed the different points of view from which the story unfolds and the suspense of not knowing who to trust. I would recommend it with the caution that there is extreme violence to women, which is thankfully matched with strong, smart female characters.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I love a good horror. I love great Zombie books. But I DO NOT love this crazy nightmare tale. I would change the repeated use of the same horrific details to string me along.

What was most disappointing about Karin Slaughter’s story?

That the author felt I needed to be reminded 100x of everyones short comings. It insulted my intelligence and made me angry. This kind of book should be about the relationships and the triumph over evil. And yet I just wanted out. And then I wanted to punch someone.

Have you listened to any of Kathleen Early’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Absolutely brilliant.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Never.

Knife twisting torture for little reason

Ms. Slaughter has penned a dark and suspenseful tale that will have you looking over your shoulders for the next four weeks. I was pulling for Claire from the beginning. I’m repulsed by the thought of Paul. I couldn’t stop listening.

Dark and Suspenseful

This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Hearing Julia's story was heartbreaking also. Putting "Blonde Hair Blue Eyes" at the beginning would be really good. all around great book. Not for the faint of heart or people who are easily "triggered"

Wow. Very talented writer

The narrator was excellent. I will look for more books read by her. Good story; certainly different.

Good story. Great narrator.

This was really well written. The performance was also done well. Some reviews went on and on about how horrible the killings were or how they wouldn't have bought this if they knew how disturbingly violent the book was towards woman. Yes, there was violence but it was not what I thought when I read the reviews. Don't let people who most likely read harlequin romances change your mind about purchasing this book. There were a few scenes that might not be for the weak but the book totally out weigh those. A definite read.
