Publisher's summary

Kay Scarpetta has been training at the Dover Port Mortuary, mastering the art of ‘virtual autopsy’ - a groundbreaking procedure that could soon revolutionise forensic science. And it is not too long before these new skills urgently need to be put into practice. A young man drops dead, apparently from a heart condition, eerily close to Scarpetta’s home. But when his body is examined the next morning, there are stunning indications that he may have been alive when he was zipped inside a pouch and locked inside the cooler.

When the revolutionary 3D radiology scans reveal more shocking details about internal injuries unlike any Scarpetta has ever seen, Scarpetta realizes that this is a case of murder - and that she is fighting a cunning and uniquely cruel enemy. Now it is a race against time to discover who and why before more people die. But that time is running out...

Good book

I enjoyed this book but sometimes the story did tend to woffle on about nothing. The narrator was good and so was the plot. If you like Patricia Cornwell you will really enjoy this book

Disappointing narration ruins the storyline

Poor narration made it difficult to follow the storyline in places. The voices of some characters were indistinguishable, and often the volume of narration dipped so much it was impossible to follow - e.g. Benton's voice. It was extremely frustrating to constantly adjust the volume. The narrator's intonation was also jarring at times. Why did Lorelei King not narrate this book like the rest of the series? And the use of background music to set the mood was absolutely unnecessary and, in fact, detracted from the mood. This was a very unsatisfying and disappointing listen.

A very good listen!

Would you listen to Port Mortuary again? Why?

Yes, I would. I mostly tend to listen to the books I buy more than once since I often miss a lot first time round. Leave it for a few months and it's like a new book again.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot, like all Scarpetta novels, was great.

Which character – as performed by Kate Burton – was your favorite?

She reads very well and I like her entire rendition.

Who was the most memorable character of Port Mortuary and why?

I remember most of them but mostly the bad guys seem to hang around in a person's memory.

Any additional comments?

If anything, it was too short. I love long books with interesting and cunning plots and lots of twists and turns.

I'm Kay's no 1.fan... creepy I know.. BUT...

As much as I love Kay, Lucy and the crew, ( and I do, really really do), Brenton is taking himself far to seriously.

Gave me a headache

Recited in such a grim expressionless monotone it's hard to tell if there's a worthwhile book in there.
First chapter sounded like a lot of acronyms and internal politics.
Couldn't take any more after that.
