A fun quick tale
This story mainly works as a read in one day experience. It works on momentum and speed. Still as a fun little story from Mary Higgins Clark about two of her favorite characters. The clever Alvirah and the steady Willy outwitting and out planning the various threats around them. The basic idea for this story is how will Willy and Alvirah outwit kidnappers and find a way to have a happy ending.
The story has charming moments and good pacing. Alvirah as usual is very clever in her maneuvers. Clark knows how to write some interesting side characters. It isn't her greatest work but if you like Clark's writing you'll likely enjoy this one.
Carol Higgins Clark enthusiastically reads this story and tries hard to give the characters a good voice and style. I find her reading voice a little annoying but other people might enjoy it. She clearly is trying to give everyone a voice and she enunciates well and makes it clear who is speaking. The audio recording quality is good.
Really it is a fun light little adventure with some amusing comedy moments. It might be a fun and quick little story you will really enjoy.

I so wanted to like this.
I can see how some people may find this story cute and enjoyable... unfortunately I'm not one of them. I found the characters annoying and I just wanted to see them reach there end.
On a personal note: the two main characters reminded me too much of my grandparents, an extremely pushy yenta and a real push over of a man who exists solely to provide a whipping boy for his wife.
