About this listen

Happy Holiday has a new life, a new job, and a new look. The US Marshals Service is hiding her in a small town in the Allegheny Mountains of Western Maryland. Peter Etchers, a cantankerous deputy marshal, is protecting her from those who want her dead, but she misses her former life as a Baltimore bicycle messenger and all her old friends. She doesn’t miss Romero Sanchez, the notorious gang kingpin. She rues the day she accidentally crashed her bike into his car.

Happy is slowly adjusting. Her job plowing snow from dangerous mountain roads provides the thrills she craves. And Maryland State Trooper Jimmy Bittinger is now a friend. Life is getting better.

Until the snowy night she plows up a dead man.

Overall - A delightful story

I enjoyed this book because I live in Deep Creek Lake and I thought the area and people were accurately portrayed. The mystery is light and enjoyable with a surprising twist. The downside was the narrator. It is so unfair to the author to have an interesting and enjoyable story and have a narrator that uses a monotone and uninteresting quality to her voice, almost a bored tone that distracts from the listening experience. I would still recommend this book as it has an interesting story line and a character that just won't quit. I look forward to another story in this series (with a different narrator) and hope that the first book in the series becomes available on audible.

Pretty good

This is a pretty good mystery with an interesting plot. Happy/Lucy is an engaging character. I look forward to reading more books with her in them.

Enjoyable story

Love how the story comes fast out of the gate with a mysterious dead body. The main character Happy is a likeable and flawed protagonist who you can enjoy seeing grow as a person as she solves the murder. This is heavily character driven novel with the mystery taking a smaller role in the over all story. Although this is a sequel book you do not need to have read the first to enjoy this book; it definitely can stand on its own. The narrator changes tone easily between characters which keeps you engaged as a listener however, sometimes she can make female characters sound a little whiny when she raises octaves in her voice. All in all a great story to listen to while walking, driving, or just hanging out relaxing with your feet up.
