About this listen

Reeve LeClaire is a college student, dammit, not Daryl Wayne Flint's victim. Not anymore-not when Reeve is finally recovering a life of her own after four years of captivity.

Flint is safely locked up in Olshaker Psychiatric Hospital, where he belongs. He is walking the grounds of the forensic unit, performing his strange but apparently harmless rituals. It seems that he is still suffering the effects of the head injury he suffered in the car crash that freed Reeve seven years ago. Post-concussive syndrome, they call it.

For all that Flint seems like a model patient, he has long been planning his next move. When the moment arrives, he gets clean away from the hospital before the alarm even sounds. And Reeve is shocked out of her new life by her worst nightmare: Her kidnapper has escaped. Less than 24 hours later, Flint kills someone from his past--and Reeve's blocked memories jolt back into consciousness. As much as she would like to forget him, she knows this criminal better than anyone else. When Flint evades capture, baffling authorities and leaving a bloody trail from the psychiatric lock-up to the forests of Washington state, Reeve suddenly realizes that she is the only one who can stop him.

Reeve is an irresistibly brave and believable heroine in Carla Norton's heart-stopping new thriller, What Doesn't Kill Her, about a young woman who learns to fight back.

My usual genre is young adult fantasy but decided to check this book out!!! I’m so impressed. I could see it as a movie. Not predictable at all. Edge of your seat suspenseful thriller at its finest. Not once was I bored during this recitation. Christina Adelaide did a great job narrating. I can’t wait to look for more books by Carla Norton.

The story itself was mostly good and really could have been great but I was distracted and eventually annoyed by the too often occurrence of near clairvoyance on the part of the main character. It seemed whenever a crucial moment was upon us, rather than the story developing in a clever and organic way, the author rather chose for these ridiculous out of the blue type realizations that would come to her, telling where to go or what to do next. It was a small annoyance I guess but feel that the author really could have filled out these sections, rather than take the easy way out, and the book would have potentially gone from good to amazing.

Good premise but reaches too much

This is the second book with this lead character and now I've happily listened to both. I assume there will be a third and develop into a series.

Good character, good writing, good plot, interesting locales, good narration. What could be better?

A Really Good Follow-up To Excellent Debut Novel

A real page turner. Narrator did great in doing different voice. At first I wasn't sure but she did great through out

Was better than I expected

I found out that this was the second novel featuring the main character after I finished the novel. I think I would have enjoyed this book a little more if I had read the other book first. With that being said, the book was ok. I can't tell you what's good or what's bad but I can say I am not mad that I purchased the book. I will read something else by Ms. Norton because I do like her style of writing.

I wish I had known this was the second book

It was stiff or stilted. I think it was the translation. Could have been a very very good listen, but either the narrator was too young sounding or the story just did not feel like it flowed.

Maybe it was the translation

The narrator made me want to quit listening to the book. She whispers, talks VERY slowly as the antagonist, and assigns weird accents to characters that are incongruent with the character’s origin. The story is good to slightly above average, but takes quite a while to really get suspenseful. I thought about ditching the book for another numerous times, but stuck with it anyway. Good ending, but I would not recommend this book.

Decent story, terrible narration

Props to the reader, she was amazing and made me really creeped out when reading for Flint; however the story itself dragged on way longer than need to with the "twists" turning up flat...

Chilling at times...

This book held my attention throughout, it was a suspenseful story with a really creepy villain.
The narrator did a wonderful job bringing out the different characters with her change in cadence and tone.
Her voice of the killer was especially convincing. He made my skin crawl because of her excellent narration.

The narration was perfection.
