About this listen

Like many people, Beth Terry didn't think an individual could have much impact on the environment. But while laid up after surgery, she read an article about the staggering amount of plastic polluting the oceans and decided then and there to kick her plastic habit. Now she wants to teach you how you can too. In her quirky and humorous style - well known to the fans of her popular blog, My Plastic-Free Life - Terry provides personal anecdotes, stats about the environmental and health problems related to plastic, and personal solutions and tips on how to limit your plastic footprint. Terry includes handy lists and charts for easy reference, ways to get involved in larger community actions, and profiles of individuals - Plastic-Free Heroes - who have gone beyond personal solutions to create a change on a larger scale. Plastic-Free also includes chapters on letting go of eco-guilt, strategies for coping with overwhelming problems, and ways to relate to other people who aren't as far along on the plastic-free path.

Both a practical guide and the story of a personal journey from helplessness to empowerment, Plastic-Free is a must-listen for anyone concerned about the ongoing health and happiness of themselves, their children, and the planet.

Wonderful non-judgmental advice and options

Fantastic story of Beth’s awareness evolution that’s well-researched. I appreciated that she’s not judgmental, and her position isn’t expressed in a dogmatic way. She also provides many helpful tips that are designed to meet you where you are in your own plastic-free journey.

Interesting book

I loved listening to this book, however the only thing that I found annoying throughout this book was that she would reed off the websites and how you would type them into the URL. I know some people might like that while being at home but for the people who listen to these while driving, it just seems like a waste of time to listen to. Other that that little complaint, I really enjoyed listening to this book and she gad some very eye opening things to say. One thing that I did love was that she added additional material to the audible that is not in the original book, which I loved. I also loved that she also narrated the book, it made the people listening feel more connected to the book and the story she was trying to tell.

I am inspired to try this. I HATE plastic!

So since wanting to begin a life in service to the sea and build up conservation and sustainable habits one thing is a thorn in my side, plastics. I gave this a try because I want to kick my own plastic habits but so much is inprobable for me. I have no patience for making my own soap I have never had to. I seek recyclable on the bottle tells me it is okay. Some liquid soaps are environmentally friendly. I feel like I should think like the hippie we are from different times I was born in the 80s. I absolutely want to save the oceans. Considering my own habits may help but I am afraid I cannot do all I’ve heard. I can do some of those things. Mostly eliminate shopping bags if I did not need them for kitty litter. But she thanks about that too. It was good informative book. I look forward to learning more how to be eco friendly for the oceans... They need me.

There's hope!

Well written. Not preachy or all Doom-and-Gloom. Liked the Scientific explanations behind each different type of material and the emphasis placed on individual actions as well as corporate and political actions. There are a lot of great ideas and products to try - I believe I will reference this book a lot in the future.
