Like better than Babel

The biggest hurdle for me is being able to respond in Italian. This course gives it to you in English and you answer in Italian which, in my opinion, does more to train you to think in Italian rather than translating in your mind. That is the dreaded freeze while you're trying to answer. However, they speak a normal fast Italian and without pausing and downright slowing the speed when you need to it can get really frustrating. I tried Babel first and I like this better. Babel is a memory game and really not a bad second language tool but cannot be used in the car or while exercising, etc. Pimsleur provides no visuals whatsoever which I find a bit of drawback as it would be nice to see some of the dialogue and that's where Babel has the advantage. I like the printed conversation drill in Babel and also being able - once again - to listen to fast talking Italians but able to read along while they do.

Extraordinary, entertaining and effective method, but dialogues need updating

I’m used to more traditional language learning methods, so Pimsleur was a big revelation for me. You just have to go with the flow of the audio, without apps, textbooks (except a booklet) or notes. I recommend to follow the course as if you were practicing for a play: don’t just repeat the words and sentences, but also imagine that you are in a real situation.
Caveat: My mother tongue is Spanish, so Italian is more obvious and easy for me.
I gave four stars because the dialogues should be updated for modern times. The difference between “signora” and “signorina” is problematic from the perspective of equality of gender. Also, one entire lesson is about a man harassing a woman who just don’t want to go out with him.

Need to rewrite script for lesson 9

Very helpful with lots of repetition. My only complaint is lesson 9, which sounds like an awkward date rape scene.

Good conversational exposure

If I were a man looking to pick up an Italian woman and feed her lots of wine at the hotel I'd be all set!
Kidding aside, I like the form of this series for learning a language. It allows me to pick up the language easily and almost involuntarily with the constant re-introduction of lessons prior.
I'm only on the second lesson so I can't comment on how fluent I'll be once I've finished.
I definitely recommend.

If you're looking for the reading material...

Any additional comments?

I was confused about where to find the reading material that is referenced in these lessons, so I thought others might be, too. Here are the instructions from Audible to find them:

"You will be able to find the accompanying material 'PDF' link underneath the book title in the 'Library' section of the website. Please click on the following link to access the 'Library' section: http://www.audible.com/lib "

Hope that helps someone!
