About this listen

Narrated by Jennifer Jason Leigh

Quentin Tarantino’s long-awaited first work of fiction - at once hilarious, delicious, and brutal - is the always surprising, sometimes shocking new novel based on his Academy Award-winning film.

Rick Dalton: Once he had his own TV series, but now Rick’s a washed-up villain-of-the week drowning his sorrows in whiskey sours. Will a phone call from Rome save his fate or seal it?

Cliff Booth: Rick’s stunt double, and the most infamous man on any movie set because he’s the only one there who might have gotten away with murder....

Sharon Tate: She left Texas to chase a movie-star dream and found it. Sharon’s salad days are now spent on Cielo Drive, high in the Hollywood Hills.

Charles Manson: The ex-con’s got a bunch of zonked-out hippies thinking he’s their spiritual leader, but he’d trade it all to be a rock ‘n’ roll star.

Performance is great. Don't know what people are complaining about. Love all the different voices she's able to do.
Also... to appreciate this book, you gotta understand what QT is referencing here, the popular movie novelizations of the 1970's. QT is such an incredible historian in his own way -- and not just about film. The amount of research that goes into his work is seriously impressive.
I know taste is an individual thing, but...
JJL rocked it.
And this book does exactly what it set out to do.

i hate to follow the crowd, but Leigh was probably not the best option for the narrator. besides that outstanding novel which answers so many questions from the movie. god dang quentin tarantino can write. look forward to the next one.

An excellent character analysis of every major character in Once Upon a Time. The performance was perfect.

Not just novelized

Great novel . If you’ve seen the film , think of this as a 12 hr extended cut. Some senes are the same as the film. I see some reviews about the narrator. She is very skilled and like all great narrators I found myself enthralled in this book. Don’t let those reviews stop you .

Great!

Great book but left out the last scene of the movie. I was looking forward to hearing it described in gory detail.

No finale?

Fantastic. Reads so much like a Tarantino film that I absolutely would have recognized it as his work even if he had used an alias. Fans of his movies will not be disappointed. And I don't understand why so many people hated the narration, I think Jennifer Jason Leigh was an excellent choice. I see a lot of reviews criticizing her vocal fray or just the fact that she's a woman and it's "supposed to be in a man's voice" (whatever that means). I don't agree at all. She does different voices well, and subtlely changes her tone to match the perspective of each character, even when there's no dialogue. Loved everything about it.

Quentin's voice and style is unmistakable
