Publisher's summary
Nothing Is Wasted is a story for anyone who has encountered trauma, tragedy, or a major transition and wondered, how do I begin to move forward through what I've experienced?
Where is God in the midst of your greatest pain?
Davey Blackburn wrestled with that age-old question in the aftermath of the murder of his beloved wife, Amanda, and their unborn daughter. As the high-profile case slowly meandered its way toward legal justice, Davey embarked on the wrenching task of finding strength to restore his shattered soul and the broken pieces of his life.
At turns horrific yet hope-filled, heartbreaking yet faith-affirming, Nothing Is Wasted is Blackburn’s disarmingly raw account not only of the shocking tragedy that forever changed his life, but of his late wife’s inspiring trust in the God who welcomed her into His loving arms.
The trauma he endured could have made anyone try to escape from the agony, yet by grace Blackburn chose to face the pain head-on and cling to his Savior to guide him through the storm.
As the riveting story of one man’s journey through the valley of suffering unfolds, listeners will join Blackburn in discovering:
- the surprising ways that hope and joy can arise in the midst of any trial or sorrow.
- the tension in accepting that “Why?” may never become clear this side of eternity.
- how a good Father is faithful to draw near to the brokenhearted.
- how forgiveness is the key to finding freedom in even the most unimaginable of offenses.
- where to discover purpose in the deepest pain.
- how a breathtaking moment at the altar symbolized love’s triumph over death.
- . . . and much more.
Most of us will never endure the depth of heartache that Blackburn has walked through, and yet his message is for us all: that even in the greatest losses and most complex tragedies, God is inviting us on a path towards redemption and healing, hope and faith, where we can begin to see that nothing is wasted.

Story
The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
Turning the other cheek does not mean standing by while the enemies of God dismantle Christian civilization and brainwash our children. Decrying the cowardice that masquerades as meekness, Eric Metaxas summons the Church to battle. An attenuated and unbiblical “faith” based on what Bonhoeffer called “cheap grace” has sapped the spiritual vitality of millions of Americans. Paying lip service to an insipid “evangelism,” they shrink from combating the evils of our time. Metaxas refutes the pernicious lie that fighting evil politicizes Christianity.

We live in a culture that wants it all. More is seen as better. For those chasing this way of life, “narrow” seems negative. Who wants to narrow their options . . . or be seen as narrow-minded? Which is why the most well-known talk in the history of the world—the Sermon on the Mount—is also the most paradoxical one. In it, Jesus holds up the narrow path as the most spacious . . . and the broader path as the more confining one. Rich Villodas, bestselling author of The Deeply Formed Life, explores what today’s broad and narrow paths look like so you can discern which one you’re on.

Story
On this earth, a crown is what separates victors from the rest of the competitors, but the goal of creating a life worth living is not to gain a trophy, get a prize, or keep the crown. Our lives are not meant to be about being number one or making our own names known. While walking you through the journey of her evolving confidence—from basing her identity on temporary labels and her own efforts, to discovering the rock-solid security of anchoring her dreams in her Maker—former Miss Universe and Miss South Africa Demi Tebow weaves her story with the insights she's learned along the way.

Story
There are giants among us, passing largely unnoticed, intent on carrying out a secret plan to enslave all humanity. They may not look like giants today, but their bloodlines extend all the way back to the Nephilim—the offspring of angels who mated with human women described in Genesis 6 when giants roamed the land. Gary Wayne, author of The Genesis 6 Conspiracy: How Secret Societies and the Descendants of Giants Plan to Enslave Humankind, details the role of modern-day Nephilim in Satan's plan to install the Antichrist at the End of Days.

Story
Jesus was never in a hurry to be anywhere other than where he was, trusting and obeying his Father. Could the same be said of us? We long to know peace, purpose, and contentment, but life's stresses, the world's discouragements, and our own striving for growth get in the way. In Relaxed, pastor and teacher Megan Fate Marshman explores what it means to set aside our addiction to trying to figure everything out and relish a slower, compelling, powerful, and relaxed life with God.

An absolute must read!
I wouldn’t consider myself to be someone who has gone through much pain in my life, but I have followed Davey and Amanda’s story since Amanda passed. I also had the opportunity to hear Amanda’s mom and sister speak a year later. What I have learned from them is how God prepares us for seasons of pain. Listening to the Nothing is Wasted Podcast and now reading this book has helped me through for trauma and, I believe, preparing for future pain that will inevitably come.

The Truth in Moving Forward
This book is written in truth & suffering. It reminded me that questioning God doesn’t make me a non believer, it makes me human. There are times we forget there is a bigger picture and things don’t happen on my time.

What a Retelling of Pain and Redemption
There are SO many principles that are echoed through this book that remind me of hard lessons I learned through dark seasons.
I’ve been a listener of the Nothing is Wasted Podcast for years and have been encouraged by hearing story after story of resilience. To dive deep into the details of Davey and Amanda’s story… it still took my breath away. Those times in our lives when the rug is pulled out and we are completely disoriented, it is then that we find out what we’re made of - what our community is made of.
This book is peppered with nugget after nugget of hard earned wisdom. I don’t know that they all came out as eloquent or clear in the moment as written (spoken in audio), but the heart and lessons are there to glean from.
There are some parts of the story that are more graphic than I expected, but maybe not inappropriate. It’s a brutal story. Be warned.
I appreciate the vulnerability and willingness to be open about how raw and hard seasons of tragedy are. If you are walking through a similar season, I think you’ll resonate with some of the questions and struggles. And I hope you’ll find hope for the days ahead.
