About this listen

From USA Today best-selling author Devney Perry comes a small town, enemies-to-lovers romance.

The night Luke Rosen met Scarlett Marks was the only time he’s regretted becoming chief of police. One horrific night of blood and death, and now she’s living under his roof — all because he swore an oath to serve and protect.

Scarlett is stubborn and infuriating. She has no respect for the order in his structured life, and she never does anything she’s told. Worse, she doesn’t seem to care that the information she has on a motorcycle gang means she might end up dead. But her unwavering strength, her courage and tenacity and beauty, makes it impossible for him to abandon her.

If Luke is going to keep her safe, he’ll have to make the hardest decision of his life. He can either honor his values as a cop, knowing Scarlett is unlikely to survive...or he can break all the rules and protect the woman who’s invaded his home and his heart.

What. A. Ride

My listening schedule got a bit off but I finally found time to fall into Luke and Scarlett’s world! What. A. Ride. I really enjoyed this couple and the danger surrounding them was real and present. I thought the narrators did a great job of bringing them to life and I felt the fear and terror. This book was INTENSE and I was here for it! Another great addition to the series!

Bumping up from 3 to 4 stars

Was gonna give this 3 stars because Scarlett was so stupid at times. She drove me insane! Bumping it up to 4 stars because I LOVED the second epilogue.

Found family

I’m obsessed with this series and I’m so happy Luke and Scarlett got their happy ending. I was giggling whenever he tried to scold her for moving his things around

Forced Proximity, Strangers to Friends to Lovers

4.5 Stars

How can you go wrong with a heroine in hiding, forced proximity, romantic suspense? Especially when it's written by Devney Perry? Let me tell you, you can't. I have truly loved every book from this series and I have no clue what I am going to do with myself when I finish it.

I absolutely loved the friendship Luke and Scarlett developed throughout this book and I love the way Luke was so understanding of Scarlett's past and her reasons for not trusting him from the start. I liked the little glimpses of everyone from the previous book, but I also love that so much of this book was on Luke and Scarlett. And I love the little glimpse into what the next book will be about. The mystery/suspense element in this book was really great and I love that while it carried over from the previous book, it stood on it's own as well.

I am so excited to see where else this series will go. This is one I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the following.

✔️ Forced Proximity
✔️ Strangers to Friends to Lovers
✔️ Law Enforcement Hero
✔️ Heroine in Hiding
✔️ Ex-Motorcycle Club
✔️ Mystery/Suspense
✔️ Small Town
✔️ First Person Dual POV

Right Person, Right Time

Scarlett is taken into protective custody by Luke's orders after getting kidnapped by Jeremiah. (This storyline was in the ending of book 3 in the series) She is also Presley's twin sister, but they have a very strenuous relationship. At this point they have just seen each other for a couple days since 10 years prior. Both have no officially escaped their abusive father.

Scarlett hates being trapped and fees like a prisioner. She escaped that with her father and wanted to live but since Jeremiah was part of a motorcycle club that has beef with the town's old club, she has to stay low. Luke feels bad for her so he decides that he will let her leave the safe house she was in and she will lay low at his house. He lays down rules and she decides that it's the best and safest move for herself.

Luke is the town's sheriff. He took over the position a couples years back and he loves what he does. What I love about Luke is that even though he has had to deal with some big town issues, he's still very soft and warm. He's so caring towards Scarlett. Over months of her laying low in his house, she gives its total makeover! She changed and organized every room. She really made the house one she loves, and Luke loved that it turned into a warm home.

Over time, Luke gets Scarlett to confide in him. She trusts him 100% and lets down all of her walls. She tells him secrets and feels comfortable enough to be able to cry on his shoulder and express her fears.

I don't want to give away a lot of spoilers because this book is one that constantly keeps you on your toes throughout the whole book. But with saying that, I absolutely loved how their story finished in this book.

Tropes:
Sheriff
Small Town
Motorcycle Club
Right Person, Right Time
Forced Proximity
Romantic Suspense

What a ride!

There are no books of Devney that I’ve disliked.

She just has a magical way of writing for me to binge them. Town Sheriff 🤌🏻 say less
Girl in hiding ✅ she’s broken and he wants to care for her.

This story was just so dang good.

Great romantic suspense

This series is really good. This is Scarlett and Luke's story.I liked how the story progressed and how Luke and Scarlett developed feelings for each other. I don't want to give away any of the storyline for spoilers. I thought Ava Erickson and Teddy Hamilton were great narrators. I hope there are more books in this series.

I loved Scarlett and Luke’s story so much!

I loved Scarlett and Luke’s story so much!

The angst, the drama, the buildup— it’s all so good! Devney’s writing transports you. The family you find in this cast of characters is fantastic. I’m going on a week of day dreaming about moving to a small town in Montana. The camaraderie and loyalty from the group at the garage is such a tender found family. They really tug at my heart!

I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself once I’m done binging this series.
