About this listen

Since serving as President Jimmy Carter's chief of staff in the late 1970s, Hamilton Jordan has survived three forms of cancer: non-Hodgkins lymphoma, melanoma, and prostate cancer. In this remarkable memoir, Jordan recounts his tumultuous adventures in the political arena and his successful journeys through the world of modern cancer treatment.

Jordan's political anecdotes are fascinating and insightful, but it is when he talks of his cancers that Jordan achieves his real impact. For this is not a story about medical miracles. It's about how a patient defeats cancer by taking charge of his own treatment and becoming a well-informed, positive-thinking partner in his cure. For cancer sufferers, their loved ones, and their caregivers, No Such Thing as a Bad Day is practical, inspirational, and indispensable.

Autobiographical account of cancer treatments

I was particularly interested in this man's experience of the whole world of cancer diagnosis, treatment, side effects, and how families and communities support patients, and for that purpose this book was excellent. As a democrat who very much liked Jimmy Carter I was very interested in learning more about his administration from an insider. I think to appreciate this book you would need to want to hear about both worlds, hospitals and politics. I came away from it with a solid respect for Mr Jordan, and a deeper understanding and concern for the many people going through cancer diagnosis and treatment at any given time. It is not an easy listen, but very worthwhile.
