About this listen

There’s no such thing as perfect love. Nina Chandler knows this to be true. Even so, love is the one thing missing from her almost perfect life. With a medical degree and new house, she’s worked hard to twist and tug her dreams into reality. But with her twenties almost over, it sometimes feels like she slept through the party and woke up to find everyone gone.

When a young woman cannonballs into Nina’s world, she’s a big, bold example of everything Nina isn’t. Page, with her edgy personality and free spirit is...perfect. Nina struggles to understand why someone so effervescent would be drawn into her small, suburban life, but her insecurity fades before the glory of Page’s adulation.

Of course, there’s no such thing as perfect love.

Nina tells herself that, when small red flags rise and fall. A moment of pure selfish recklessness. A sharp word, a bone-cold look. But if there’s one thing Nina has always been good at, it’s hushing the voices of doubt that get between her and her ambitions - until those dreams start to spin out of control and become a nightmare she can’t wake up from.

Praise for the book:

"Masterfully written." (Darryl Stephens, lead actor in Noah's Arc)

"This book promises to haunt, anger, console, and ultimately inspire anyone who opens it." (Marc Lamont Hill, host of BET News)

"Creative genius." (Mercedes Samudio, best-selling author and psychotherapist)

Gripping Story!

This short book is full of emotion. It keeps the reader on edge and challenges the reader to question what they would do in similar situations. It also reminds us that abuse comes in many forms and relationship types.

The book describes one's unwillingness to be fulfilled living single.

This book gives great details as to how queer folks are conditioned to take responsibility for the intolerable actions of people that abuse other queer folks. Abuses target and manipulate people around them. It also highlights that abusers play friends and family members against people being abused so that they have few people to help them.

Modern Love: Walking on Broken Glass

This story was a slow burn. As I moved into Chapter 2 the characters became ordinary in a curious way. I I liked the fact that the drama was not too "dramatic" I understood the main character through her internal dialogue navigating through her external experiences. I was invested enough in the main character I wanted to go deeper into her thoughts and feelings. Short and bittersweet.

Amazingly on point!

Loved every thing about it! This book spoke to me. I haven't read a book i liked in years and this one drew me right in from the beginning. I saw myself in Nina, there were so many similarities. It really was captivating and raw!
