About this listen

Join the supes of New Orleans Nocturnes as they lighten up the darker side of the Big Easy in this paranormal romantic-comedy collection by award-winning author Carrie Pulkinen!

Fantastic. It's just my luck I get turned into a vampire by an Edward Cullen wannabe who has Captain Jack Sparrow as his mentor.

He did gift me with immortality, super strength, and a complexion to die for, so I suppose I shouldn't complain.

There's only one tiny problem....

I faint at the sight of blood.

All I wanted was to have the time of my life with my bestie at Mardi Gras. But you know what they say....

It's all fun and games until someone wakes up dead.

Follow Jane, Sophie, and Crimson on their journeys to navigate the world of supernatural New Orleans and maybe even find love along the way!

Get it now!

The best paranormal rom/com reads / listens ever! I am hooked on this author and this series. Each book is well written and flows perfectly from one to the other. Epilogues provide the hints as to what each new book will focus on. First let me start by saying the women in these reads are fun, independent and strong. Pulkinen does a wonderful job of providing witty banter, sweet romance and some steamy chemistry and balances them all out perfectly. I also appreciate that each read focus' on a different race of paranormal - book 1, main characters are Jane and Ethan and we're introduced to vampires; book 2, main characters are Sofie and Trace and we're introduced to werewolves and book 3, main characters are Crimson and Mike and we're introduced into the world of witches. Narration by Jackson is stellar! As these books take place in the fabulous city of New Orleans - a southern accent is a must and Jackson delivers an authentic sounding southern accent - while bringing each character to life - well done!

Parents: This is Not for kids or teens. R rated - There is quite a bit of bad language in these books including f-bombs. The violence is normal fantasy levels, adult drinking, hangovers and the sexual content is pretty heavy: lots of adult bedroom humor and pretty hard to miss insinuations and puns, along with pretty detailed bedroom scenes.

Beyond the warnings these will definitely appeal to the paranormal adult crowd. It has the benefit of 3 books for 1 credit or price of one book. Book one is vampire based, two shifter, and three is a witchy story. If a fun, comedic, paranormal, fantasy, romance, adventure with a dirtier side sounds intriguing then you'll enjoy this set.

The narrator does a great job, has good differentiation between characters, and is fun to listen to.

The vampire was good, but I was always team Jacob. The werewolf took on a strong lead. I loved the character development. in the lead and winner came Life's a Witch. Her quirky messed up spells, then falling for a recovering demon! Love it! ❤️

Life's a Witch was my favorite.

I couldn’t stop laughing throughout these stories. The characters were so cute and quirky and made me laugh a lot. The stories were cute and kept me entertained. It’s a very fun set of stories and I want even more in this world. Definitely well worth the read if you enjoy supernatural characters and want a good laugh.

So much fun

A good set of stories made less by their voice actor.

Three enjoyable stories tied together by epilogues and preludes. The stories themselves could have been so much more entertaining with their cleverness wit, and attempts at dry humor her narrator did not take proper advantage of which is a fine line between a ham and dry wit.

I found the narrator distracting as a Southern person myself. I found the narrator's lack of effort to educate herself in her craft disappointing. It could have been so much better if Jackson had taken the time to research what people from these three very different areas and cultures really sound like or choose not to read accents at all if she can't do a credible job with them. She also read the lines with ambigious punctuation to differentiate between questions and statements, so everyone sounded as though we should be listening for an also fake laughtrack.
Voice performers are readers' eyes into the scenes and what the characters would be feeling and doing. Readers and listeners have no faces or body language to infer characters' thoughts, feelings, and actions other than writer's stage directions. Story narrators need to hone their voice acting skills even more than live actors because all they have are their voices, their imagination and the author's words to make readers beleive they are a part of the world the author has created. Unless these are full cast and foleied dramatic performances, voice actors can't rely on background music to que the intended emptions, etc. Given enough study and acting ability a voice actor can make even dry Encyclopedia articles interesting, make listeners breathless (with them) during the action scenes, shed a tear of empathathy, jump in fright. She gave everyone from Texas to Louisiana, the SAME syrupy fake accent making all the women merely a nasaly whine compared to the men. Tragic!

Individually I rated two of these stories five stars and one of them four so I'm rounding up at five stars. I like Pulkinen's style and humor and I enjoy this paranormal Ne Orleans she's created. There is a touch of mystery, adventure and romance as well as some sexual content. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Hollie Jackson. She's got a pleasant, good voice and she differentiates the characters well. Some of it I listened to at 1.50x speed and she was clear and audible even so. It was a good listening experience.

In Licence to Bite, Jane is a travel blogger and the daughter of a governor, visiting New Orleans with her friend Sophie. After a traffic accident, grumpy vampire Ethan saves her life, sort of, by turning her into a vampire. But she faints at the sight of blood so this makes learning to feed problematic for her. There's a draconian inspector in town who really wants to stake her if she can't get her licence to bite.

In Shift Happens, Jane's friend Sophie is an aspiring witch who doesn't seem to be able to get any spells to work. On a night out, she gets bitten by a werewolf and suddenly needs to shave more often. She brings home a dog who turns into a man, and Trace tells her that the wolf pack thinks she's responsible for a curse upon their pack.

Life's a Witch is a fun paranormal comedy about Crimson Oliver who is not a very competent witch and got in trouble with the higher ups. Things soon go from bad to worse when she meets a recovering demon named Mike who accidentally damns her to Hell. I loved the story and it kept me engrossed all the way through.

I got the audiobook from storyoriginapp and this is a voluntary review

This book is hilarious!!!! This is my first time hearing about this series and then to have the audiobook with the “southern accent”. Im not sure which was funnier the story line or the narrator trying to sound like a Texan- which i will say was something else. As a Native Texan i didnt know if i should laugh or be offended. I laughed it was to funny not to cause the narrator tried. But all in all it was a good audiobook

Funny
