A life well lived!

This was an amazing tale. I followed Resolute from a carefree child in Jamaica, as a slave in puritan America and a silent patriot in Boston. This story is a testament to the strength and power of early American women. I laughed and cried, laughed more and then ugly cried when I had to say goodbye. This was the best 25 hours I have ever listened to. Thank you Nancy, for another amazing character and a story that will stay with me forever.

Engaging Throughout!!!

In Nancy Turner’s novel, Resolute, a young girl embarks on a forced journey taking her from a privileged English plantation owner’s daughter to that as a slave.
Resolute, the protagonist is dealing with the heartbreak of her murdered father, the separation from her mother, and the lifelong desire to return to the Jamaican plantation from where she was captured by pirates.
Nancy Turner is a gifted writer with engaging prose and insightful observations. She uses Resolute’s character as the narrator showcasing her life and personal interactions which illuminate the creation and strife of the early American colonists.
Pay close attention to the first hour of this audio book as I tend to listen while driving and I made the mistake of trying to engage while in rush hour traffic. I had to rewind back to the beginning twice because I was getting lost with the introduction and mentioning of various characters. One I concentrated and envisioned each character, it was easy be absorbed into Turner’s story. It was the best twenty-five hour escape I have had in a long time. It is one of those novels that when finished, I really missed the world I had been living alongside during my drive time. In fact, on my drives after work I would find myself passing my home/destinations and driving a few extra miles just to finish a chapter.
This is my fifth Nancy Turner audio book. I have also ordered each in Hardback as her stories deserve to be held in hand and delivered through pages.
Through Audible or it’s original hard copy, it’s a delight to accompany Resolute on her physical and emotional journey from the age of eleven to a great grandmother in her sixties. The ending is a perfect denouement to a truly epic and engaging journey.
This book can never be a movie for too much of its fine details could never be condensed into a two-three hour screenplay. However, this would make a great Netflix mini-series. There’s enough material for a few seasons of worthwhile adventure on the history of (parts of) the early Americas delivered both through classic and detailed writing.
The reader truly mastered the voices of an epic cast of characters with both masculine and feminine tone and the perfect accents ranging from French-Canadian, English Proper, Old English Commoner, Jamaican, and English Colonist. The linguistic talent of the reader added to the engagement of this audiobook.

Another incredible Nancy Turner book!

Thank you! I just discovered this book after reading Light Changes Everything. Th 23 hours went by quickly, thank you for not cutting it short or making it two books. I love Nancy Turner's stories, so well written with intelligent and flawed and compassionate women. This was a gift after fearing I wouldn't find another book from Nancy. Thank you again! And thank you Audible for choosing a narrator that fits the book.

Too long

The last quarter of the book seemed to drag for me. The story itself was very interesting. I really liked her early years… it was a time I have not read much about.
