Just ok

maybe it was the narrator's boring voice but this book didn't do it for me, it was grueling to get through to the end. the end was kind of flat, as well.

I wanted to love it

Too many coincidences. Too many forgotten phones. I couldn't connect with Bree. There were no trustworthy white women in this story, yet she kept trusting them. it felt contrived and culturally inaccurate.

Excellent Read

I love mystery novels and this was a good one. I definitely recommend! I plan to get the hard copy for my collection.

Good, not great.

I had hoped to enjoy this book more than I actually did. However, it became frustrating at the constant reminder that Bree was a black woman, like it wasn't made clear the first couple of times it was mentioned. Then, there was the frequent misplacement of important things like phones, keys, etc. At times, I found myself more irritated at Bree than I cared to find out who the killer was.

Satisfying twists

A bit of slowed pacing in the middle, but the reveals in the last 25% of the book are well worth the wait.

Twists and Turns, Not What I Expected

First time reading a book by Kellye Garrett but I know of her from the Crime Writers of Color podcast. Based on the title of the book, I thought it was going to be more focused on race and the issues that come into play whenever a white woman or girl goes missing in America and all of the attention those cases usually get versus a missing black woman or girl, but it was not, so for me, the title was a bit misleading. As for the actual story, it was good, although I feel like there were quite a few loose ends with some of the relationships that could have been tied together just a little bit better especially as the case began to come together to be solved along with some aspects that didn't make sense, like the main character being gone from her job for so long. Overall though, a great book with lots of modern influences like Instagram, etc. I'll definitely read another mystery novel by Garrett.

Grabbed my interest

I didn’t want to stop listening. This was a great auto book and the performance was top tier!

Good for a first time Crime Thriller

"The Missing White Woman" by Kellye Garrett was a book club pick, and my first time diving into a crime thriller. It all goes down in a mostly white neighborhood in Jersey City, just a hop, skip, and a jump from New York City. Overall, it was a good read, but the ending definitely left me feeling a little sideways.

The book kicks off at a fast pace, pulling you right into the mystery from the jump. After that initial quick start, the suspense really begins to simmer and build up slowly, getting more and more intense – and that part, I dug. What really stood out to me was how the book showed how the **media can totally twist a story and get the public in a real frenzy** – that was a sharp piece of writing, no doubt. Now, the main female character, she came off as a real victim, but also pretty naive, like, to the point where it was almost hard to believe at times.

By the time I hit the end, I had kind of pieced things together, so the big reveal didn't exactly shock me like I thought it would. And honestly, it left the story hanging a bit, you know? I was still scratching my head wondering more about the "why" behind certain things with the accused and the victims – that whole connection felt a little muddled. It just didn't quite land for me.

So, if you're looking for a suspenseful crime thriller that makes you think about media craziness, "The Missing White Woman" could be a solid pick. Just don't expect a jaw-dropping ending that ties up every single loose end like a neat bow.

Loved the ending!

This book was unique but there are some parts that were formulaic. I follow plots closely and there are some elements of the story that are far-fetched or are just plain plot holes. However, the ending was unexpected. This story also brings to light the fact that social media is a very powerful tool that can be used for good and evil by everyday people.
