About this listen

If one touch can infect...then a kiss is deadly.

All Ruby Behl wants for her 17th birthday is a good career path match, and to kiss her best friend and longtime crush, Wesley Fairchild. Unfortunately, the simplicity of teenage wishes evaporated a decade ago when the Tercera virus nearly wiped out the human race. Transmitted through touch, the slightest contact is prohibited in the safe haven community of Port Gibson.

An innocent game of Spin the Bottle, a rite of passage for Port Gibson's teens, provides the opportunity Ruby's been waiting for, but when Wesley winds up Marked, Ruby realizes her first kiss may also be her last. Ruby races the viral clock to uncover long buried secrets about her dead parents, and her once cloudy future becomes clear. She's the key to finding the cure, but is she willing to pay the price?

This young adult book was good. It is a dystopian action with a little tension and some light kissing. Safe for teens.

I did not have any complaints when reading this book. The story line ran pretty smoothly.

Adventurous and fun little YA novel

This book surprised me. I listened because it was free on Audible and I really enjoyed it. It's definitely directed toward a teenaged audience but it's well written. I'm a little confused about the relationship with a minor who a character essentially groomed since 10 years old though? That was a little disappointing.

Adventures

Ruby is a teenager that is living in a world where you become an adult at only seventeen. She’s small in every way and only just shy of her seventeenth birthday, and feels like she no longer a child. The adventure she embarks on makes her grow up fast and she starts to see things a little differently. Your emotions will be all over the place and the narrative is outstanding.

overall very good listen

I did very much enjoy the book, and the overall story telling kept me interested. but... the girl flip flopping back and forth between boys and her over all written personality was soooo annoying. but still good. worth the listen

Decent

Decent story. Enjoyable characters. Horrible narration. Increasing the speed to 1.15 helped some, but still not good. I couldn't tell at first if it was the writing I didn't like or that the narration ruined an otherwise good story. I think it's the latter.

Flawed story but it's great for teens

in the beginning the main character seems aloof from her relatives that took her in. At first calling her cousins cousins and then later calling them brother and sister? It was an abrupt change in how she referred to them.
the narrator does a really good job at portraying the emotions of an indecisive and irrational teen. it makes me very curious to know what experiments have been done on Sam as he seems to be almost superhuman.
As for the narrator, she did a fairly decent job. however, sometimes I was trying to figure out what was actually said out loud and what was thought in the main characters mind. there was no subtle change to sort of help the listener understand the switch.
