About this listen

An Adepta Sororitas novel.

In the wake of the war for Ophelia VII, Battle-Sister Evangeline of the Order of Our Martyred Lady embarks on a crusade into the darkness that lies beyond the Great Rift, seeking vengeance and revelation, but surviving the journey will only be the first and most simple test of her faith.

Listen to It Because: Delve into Imperium Nihilus with a tale of faith and fury that looks at the nature of the Adepta Sororitas and their place in the new Dark Imperium.

The Story: With the birth of the Cicatrix Maledictum the Imperium of Mankind suffers as never before. Conflict and corruption is rife on every front and precious little hope remains, save for those who hold to their faith when faced with destruction....

Denied a martyr’s death during the battle for Ophelia VII, Sister Evangeline of the Order of Our Martyred Lady is blessed with a new and grave duty: to embark on a pilgrimage beyond the Great Rift to recover a precious and powerful artefact - the Shield of Saint Katherine. Accompanied by the enigmatic Inquisitor Ravara, who seeks her own closure in the veiled regions beyond the Rift, Evangeline must find a way to bear the weight of this unasked-for destiny if she and her Sisters are to succeed in restoring a fragment of light to this new dark Imperium.

Not revolutionary but enjoyable and engaging.

The book itself is fairly predictable but still enjoyable. It isn't insulting and doesn't try to do too much. I do feel like people may be lost if they have no knowledge of the sisters of battle or even 40k. I would assume anyone listening or reading this is already a fan but I don't believe this will grab anyone new.

Odd side note. The performances were excellent but the sound quality for the one actress can be rough. You can hear things like pages turning, people moving and the actual recording doesn't sound like it's in a professional studio. It didn't bother me too much but I know it will bother some people. I gave it a pass because I assume the recording process got interrupted by the covid pandemic and I'm just happy it got produced at all.

A Strong Sister Novel

The two narrators do an excellent job of bringing the story to life. An excellent listen for anyone intrested in the Adeptus Sororitas. The ending is a bit less satisfying, setting the stage for a possible sequel but is not a deal breaker.

An excellent story of the Sororitas' struggles.

An underrated gem concerning a 40K faction that hasn't received as much love as they should, 'Mark of Faith' has plenty to offer for fans of the Adepta Sororitas.

Excellent storytelling

A great book! Characters struggle with realistic problems in realistic ways and drive the story forward incredibly well with great character progression. I would definitely recommend it.

Good book, flawed reading

Honestly I really liked it, the Adepta Sororitas are my favorite Imperium faction and it’s good to see them getting more of a presence in the universe. Only real gripe with the performance is that there are some times where the characters are supposed to be screaming and the narrator sounds like she’s stage whispering, and a few times when they’re supposed to be singing and that sounds much the same. Overall though definitely worth a listen.

Good book, more about the journey

this is a hard one to review. not because it's a bad book, I really enjoyed it, it's just different than what I was used to from a 40k novel.

I've read mostly space marine books, a few of the real crime and investigative hive world books, and this book definitely sits in a different genre than what I've read before.

there is so much focus on how the characters are feeling and their internal struggles. now I know what you're saying, it's a book, not a movie, they have to describe it. But That's why I say this book is more about the journey, they do a lot of giving you an insight into how the character is feeling, on every step of the journey. It's a lot about the internal monologue that the characters are having, why they are doing what they're doing and why they are moving forward to their next goal.

while a space marine novel might use a battle or a crime book might give you a revelation of a clue the character found to tell you what the future might hold, this book uses more dialogue and character building to give you that information.

All in all, it's a good book, I think they wrote the sisters of battle very well, the voice actors nailed the characters, and I love the ending. If you are used to space marine books it can feel a little slow, but hang in there because the ending is great.

It’s a decent read for a Sisters of Battle book

The story plays out like a rollercoaster. When it gets going, it flows well. Though there are several slow points in the book.

Okay...Great and Meh

The singing was a big turn off. But the story was great. A fresh perspective on an inquisitor. Character development was good. The emperor loving supernatural faith was very present and fun at times. All in all a good listen; great at times, meh at others.
