Story
Savid DelaCrotia is the third born son of one of the Kingdom of Montshire’s oldest and most respected High families. Cast aside by his father at an early age, it’s up to him to make his own way and create his own honor. With just his horse, his weapons, the clothes on his back and in his pack, and the education that his family provided, he’ll have to go it alone. Luckily, he already has a pretty good idea of what he’s good at - fighting, and woodcraft - not to mention finding hidden and lost items.

Every year, the empire administers the rite of passage into adulthood. That rite serves to identify those blessed by Aether to become magi. The new magi are shipped to the academy to learn the arts of magic. The academy is a dangerous place; the tournaments held twice each year can cripple or kill the students, and the clans of the empire will go to great lengths to recruit the students they want. Gregory had one dream: to become a magi like the legends of old. Though he was ridiculed by the residents of the village and his unsupportive father, he never wavered from his dream.

However, when destiny takes an unexpected turn, Sen finds himself thrust into the role of a cultivator’s disciple. Chosen over the nobles who once looked down on him, he is adopted into a makeshift family of three ancient cultivators, each with a lifetime of knowledge and insights. Dominic's world had been a fairly simple life. To live his life to the best of his abilities, gain experience, level up, and strive to enjoy himself as best he could in a backwater. Which, while tough on its own, was made infinitely harder by his father being the local executioner. All of that becomes infinitely worse when his entire family is murdered. Dominic is then thrust into a war between noble houses that had been put on hold for generations. A war that the royal family lost, and now only had one true heir and claimant: Dominic Randolph.

When they hanged mage Baron Homburg and his family for treason, they missed one of his sons. The fourth son, ten-year-old Dale, witnessed the execution of his family, and something inside him broke. Two things happened that day: one, Dale became a borderline sociopath, and two, his mage abilities manifested at almost full strength, especially his wood or forest magic. Jonny’s Back!!!
He’s back with a very good story and excellent sarcasm “…. If we could stop measuring our witchy wands…” great line!!!! His last book regarding Katrina was so horrible - I was both pi$$ed and insulted - I’d love to know how that ever was released - but Jonny is back and I’ll wait with baited breath for his next - don’t want to rush genius unless we’re talking Patrick Rothfuss!

Okay
The story is okay. It keeps with the whole world crated to cover the universe of the Demon Accords. I feel that we are drifting away from the original subject matter and people. But that happens. I guess this is a way to keep the subject matter relevant. Still Declan and Chris seems to have slid up the scale and now are more god like

Felt like half a book - Decent read but not on par
The book is a solid "okay". It doesn't really do anything for the over all story beyond maybe set up book 20. Ton of filler, not much actual story and just when you get to the story, the book ends. Slightly disappointing but we'll see where it leads.
