About this listen

Nelle Thompson lives a life of privilege during turn-of-the-century New York City. When her parents are killed in a terrible accident, she’s forced to live with her aunt’s family in a small town in Connecticut, and she is treated as a poor relation with no financial independence. Broken hearted and riddled with insomnia, Nelle’s health begins a downward spiral. When a locked part of her heart blossoms around her cousin’s fiancé Mathew Janson, Nelle doesn’t know if she can endure one more heartbreak. Miss Pearl, owner of the local apothecary shop, becomes a mother figure to Nelle, but a fateful summer day has Nelle questioning everything she's ever believed and wondering if she’ll ever love again.

Critic reviews

"As Moore narrates the story from the alternating perspectives of Nelle and Mathew, readers should be caught up in the magical romanticism of the tale. The fast-paced book remains appealing even as it deals with difficult topics, ranging from death and depression to love and redemption. Moore tackles each issue with wisdom and grace." Beautiful story, wonderfully narrated

Would you consider the audio edition of Love Is Come to be better than the print version?

Wow. That is an unexpected question. I loved reading this book very much. However, there are obvious advantages to the audio version. That notwithstanding, I must admit that this story and this narrator create quite a unique and romantic spell, that somehow exceeds the limitations of mere words on paper.

What other book might you compare Love Is Come to and why?

For some reason, Love is Come reminds me of works by Ciara Knight. The sweetness, nostalgia and happily ever afters help me make such a connection.

Which scene was your favorite?

The train station. It has to be that special moment.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

a tender, nostalgic love story

Any additional comments?

This is one of those audiobooks that I could listen to over and over again. The narrator is exceptional.

Sweet historical

A charming historical romance with just the right amount of humor and struggle. I enjoy the Matchmaker series and this is a very nice addition.

Clean romance

This was a great book. I loved the narrator- she had different voices for all the different people and her voice was soothing. The story was cute and the author wrapped everything up nicely in the end.

Love is...?

This plot is strong and the characters are okay, but I had trouble with where all this peace and love supposedly comes from.

Nelle’s parents are killed in a terrible accident and she’s forced to live with her aunt where she’s treated badly. Devastated with grief, she sinks into a depression but her cousin’s fiancé, Mathew, brings her happiness. Her cousin is a spoiled brat. Then Nelle meets Miss Pearl. Miss Pearl is a bit too mystic for my taste. Her character boarders on a spiritual guide and left me asking what is the source of this love? I may read another Moore book, but not the series.

I recommend Love is Come even though the beginning is a bit disjointed and the almost-end bogs down in depression and trust issues... the ending makes up for both flaws.

Clean historical romance

Good clean romance. I enjoyed the story and liked the narrator but I didn’t love that her voice sounded too mature for a young girl.

Wonderful clean romance

This was the first Power of the Matchmaker book I read when the series came out several years ago.

This story takes place at the turn of the 20th century. It's the story of Nelle, who has been recently orphaned when both of her parents are killed in an accident. She decides to go and live with her mother's sister for the few months until her 21st birthday when she gets her inheritanece. It's there she meets Matthew, who is practically engaged to her cousin Alice. She had met Matthew years before when visiting her cousin.

There's an immediate attraction between the Nell and Matthew, although there are a couple of twists and turns in their relationship. Pearl, the Matchmaker, appears several times to help Nelle, who is having a hard time dealing with the sudden death of her parents, living with her strict aunt while she waits for her inheritance, while trying to avoid Matthew, because of her growing attraction to him.

I loved this book the first time I read it and had a hard time putting it down. The same for the audiobook, as I didn't remember how Nell and Matthew work things out because of her cousin's engagement to him. I liked that we see Pearl several times in this story. The narrator has a lovely voice and does a fantastic job.
