Acerca de esta escucha

In the wilderness, one false step can make the difference between a delightful respite and a brush with death.

On a beautiful summer afternoon in 1998, Dan Stephens, a 22-year-old canoeist, was leading a trip deep into Ontario's Quetico Provincial Park. He stepped into a gap among cedar trees to look for the next portage - and did not return. More than four hours later, Dan awakened from a fall with a lump on his head and stumbled deeper into the woods, confused.

Three years later, Jason Rasmussen, a third-year medical student who loved the forest's solitude, walked alone into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness on a crisp fall day. After a two-day trek into a remote area of the woods, he stepped away from his campsite and made a series of seemingly trivial mistakes that left him separated from his supplies, wet, and lost, as cold darkness fell.

Enduring days without food or shelter, these men faced the full harsh force of wilderness, the place that they had sought out for tranquil refuge from city life. Lost in the Wild takes listeners with them as they enter realms of pain, fear, and courage, as they suffer dizzying confusion and unending frustration, and as they overcome seemingly insurmountable hurdles in a race to survive.

A must for anyone who spends time in the wilderness

Absolutely remarkable survival stories by these two young men. A very good listen, anyone who spends time in the wilderness should listen to their ordeals.

just not great.

unsympathetic characters that is probably better with local knowledge. the story drags and then ends without a wrap-up.

Painful, but in a good way.

Difficult to listen to so many poor choices being made but overall great stories of survival.

Confused...

While I enjoyed the story, at times it was confusing because it jumps around from one lost person to someone else that's also lost.
The author also gives too much information on subordinate characters.
I almost didnt finish the book because of these reasons.

Great story on wilderness survival.

Great for learning about wilderness survival and never giving up. A beautiful reminder of how important it is to show your family how much you love them.

Tough to follow on audiobook.

This is a great book with the story of two different people lost at two different times, but it jumps back and forth, and the book doesn’t do well with the transitions. Probably much easier to follow on paper when you can flip back and forth (especially the first few chapters as you figure out who’s who). Wish the audiobook would start each section with the name of the person, not the date or location. I had to restart after a few chapters to get a solid grasp on each main character, the dates, and locations. Once I did that, it was easier to follow.

Actually thought it was really good

Was hard to keep track of the two different stories and which was which in the audiobook version, that’s the reason for 4 stars
Other than that good book

Worth the time to listen

What incredible stories. These two stories are engrossing stories of survival and rescue. It was hard to stop listening and complete other “life” tasks until knowing the fate of these two men.
The way the book was organized might have worked fine in print but It was difficult to interchange stories every chapter. I remedied that by skipping chapters and listened to every other chapter to finish one man’s story before listening to the other.
