Tender mixed with gumption

I wished it was longer! A wonderful representation of a cabin in the woods story but with friends instead of being a hermit

So much helpful information

This book explains a lot of “how tos” for living off the grid while at the same time making it a pleasant story about 3 men living in the woods, each with a different perspective.

A pleasant read

I really enjoyed this trip back in time to a simple life in nature, a gentle and enjoyable read.

Great book if you like learning

This book is not what I thought it would be which was homesteading. However, there is a wealth of knowledge about bush craft and wilderness survival. I love to learn and this book does that going month by month telling you what to expect from flora to fauna. Tips on traversing the wild, how to best equip yourself so your prepared for every situation. I lived and hiked olin Colorado for the many years I lived there, and I can't count how many times folks unfamiliar with thr wilderness go out for a day hike without any survival gear. ALWAYS be prepared! It can be a beautiful day when you start out but I've experienced a cold front coming through that can drop the temps ove 40 degrees in an hour. If you're not prepared you could die! Though this book is not about Colorado, it will help you understand how the months change quickly and how to be prepared to survive in the wilderness! I bought the audiobook book but will also purchase the hard copy just to have the info on hand.

Excellent!!!

Certainly one of the best books ever written, and the narrator was nothing short of excellent. I enjoy it so much, in fact, that I listen to it quite regularly.

this is. classic. I will probably set a time each year while not in a hurry to listen to this fire side.

but like many books to do it right I will need the book version to do projects a look at the images.

One of my favorites

I wish I could find more books like this one. The content was great, the narrator was perfect for this story. Highly recommend if you like reading or listening to the back country tales of living in back woods. I bought a paper copy also after listening.

BEST BOOK EVER!!!!

The BEST book ever written!! it is embarrassing how many times I have re-listened to this. I enjoyed it so much that I bought the book. ( and you're really missing out if you don't buy the actual book because the illustrations in there that Hank did really lets you see exactly what is being talked about). the narrator is the perfect match for the story being told. I have a lot of anxiety and this book really really helps with that. just the simplicity of not just living in nature but living with nature in a time where there were no phones and the only way anyone could get to you was by plane or canoe. John Rowlands really knows how to tell a story and Keith Sellon - Wright knows how to deliver it!!!! If I could give this book more stars I definitely would without hesitation. One would really be missing something if one missed out on this incredible read/listen. I listen to this before going to bed to help calm me down and settle me. I really feel like I live 2 mi down on another Lake and I'm right there hanging out with Hank Jim, and the Chief. 💜 love this book

A wonderful story

I'm not sure how I happened upon this title, but at such an uncertain and frightening time, it was a welcome respite. John Rowlands' life at Cache Lake is utter simplicity and food for the soul. Mr. Wright narrates this book in such a way that I always thought it was the author telling me the story. This audio title spurred me to find a hard copy for my library which I will savor when on vacation this summer. This is simply a joyful listen.
