We need more from Taffy Brodesser-Akner!

If you like The Royal Tenembaum’s, this book is for you. I just love TBA’s writing and storytelling. So good.

A family story of riches, ruin and redemption

Wow Edwardo Ballerini can sure do a great Yiddish New York accent, very impressive! I liked that the story was based on a lot of historical and geographical references!

A horrible family

The Fletchers, the main characters in this book, reminded me of those in Schitt’s Creek with the exception that they were unappealing and humorless. I do not recommend. Although I always enjoy Ballerini’s narration.

Funny and worth it

Good, really good. A Jewish Franzen. Worth a credit. I would love to see this as a series.

Beautifully written

I keep telling everyone that this book reminds me of Goodbye Columbus era Roth. A higher compliment I cannot pay!

Compelling story, wonderful narration

I could not stop listening to this book. Laugh out loud funny in places, emotional and complex in others - wild but touching story of 3 generations of a family with some of the best narration that I’ve heard. Loved it.

A great story

Love the story, really dislike the narrator. I prefer more of a straight read. I don’t think this reader’s choices work for this book. And he mispronounces at least 2 words: perineum and Ativan.

Sharp, sardonic, witty

The characterizations and thoughts of each character are articulate, detailed, and very funny. The book was immensely enjoyable and so well written. The story-telling is wonderful.

Surprising

Long Island Compromise was surprisingly powerful. I was annoyed at times, most of the time, at the portrayal of stereotypical Jewish mothers as, disappointed, overbearing, emotionally distant, and controlling women. But, the characters were so well developed that by the end of the book I was a bit dazed. I will ponder my feelings and reaction before I start a new book.
