About this listen

King. Warrior. Lover.

Brian Boru was stronger, braver, and wiser than all other men-the greatest king Ireland has ever known. Out of the mists of the country's most violent age, he merged to lead his people to the peak of their golden era.

His women were as remarkable as his adventures: Fiona, the druidess with mystical powers; Deirdre, beautiful victim of a Norse invader's brutal lust; Gormlaith, six-foot, red-haired goddess of sensuality.

Set against the barbaric splendors of the 10th century, Lion of Ireland is a story rich in truth and legend-in which friends become deadly enemies, bedrooms turn into battlefields, and dreams of glory are finally fulfilled.

My sister recommended this because she knew I was en route to Ireland and she said it was a historical fiction she had enjoyed immensely. I absolutely concur! It was a wonderful way to connect to Ireland’s rich Celtic past.
Recommend.

A perfect book to absorb while in Ireland!

The story is entertaining and very well done. There is the feeling that the author researched extensively to build the framework for this historical fiction. The majority of the story feels very plausible, which is a positive nod to the quality of the author's work of fictional history. For anyone with an interest in Ireland, Irish history, or just an entertaining medieval adventure, this book will fit the bill. Even with it being fictional, I felt that I picked up a little real Irish history and it deepened my feeling of connection with Ireland.

The narration was a very mixed bag for me. The narrator did a good job in general, and the men's voices came through fine. However, the women's voices were uniformly not so good. This is unusual with a female narrator, where the criticism is usually the reverse. Unfortunately, nearly all of the female characters ended up sounding like whiny children or very old women. For some reason, the narrator struggled with making the adult women simply sound like adult women. This made those characters difficult to listen to.

Despite the narration issues, I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Exciting historical adventure of Ireland

The narration is splendid. A great author as well. I'm not Irish, but this duo make me wish I were.

Brilliant

This book is long!! The cast of characters is extensive and there are times when I needed to reverse to find out who was who. My family is from Ireland and The Isle of Man so I found this to be fascinating. I intend to listen again and take notes so I can build a better understanding of the history of Ireland.

There’s so much history!

The live scenes with Boru and his wives. they were too long and seemed to serve no purpose. i felt like i was reading a dime romance novel.

the description of Cashel. i have been there twice and it's very much like it is described.

Great saga and a relatively happy ending for an Irish story. Still wish he reunited with his lady of the forest.

I was named after Brian

I loved the historical fidelity, the moving character development, the teachings of ancient paganism and the gradual embrace of Christianity, and the conveyance of the Celtic spirit. The narration brought the life and legend of Brian Boru alive for me.

Another masterpiece from Morgan Llywelyn

This was a story first and was told with amazing skill. I enjoyed it from the first paragraph. I was happy with the author notes and her accurate research and also her creative license. She looked at both sides and decided on a path in the middle. A good read about my ancestors

Loved it
