Publisher's summary

How the boy became a Viking. How the man became a legend.

A discarded child fated to become a powerful Jarl - here is the story of Sidroc.

Fate guides the path of his father, Hrald, to his meeting with the woman whose son would help change the face of ninth-century Angle-land. An ever-growing rivalry between Sidroc and his cousin Toki defines the boys' early years. Their young uncle, Yrling, knows success as a raider in far-off Angle-land, and trains his nephews in the ways of the warrior. Ahead of them is the perilous crossing of the North Sea, which stands between them and the plunder they seek. Once on the great island of Angle-land, hard fighting awaits, through which Sidroc rises to second in command in the war-band headed by Yrling. Then, at their captured Saxon stronghold, comes the young woman for whom Sidroc will one day change his life....

Dovetailing into Book One, Sidroc the Dane is a new stand-alone entry point into the world of The Circle of Ceridwen of Saga, a book to be savoured at any point on the journey. Enter the Circle here.

I liked the backstory.

I was a little disappointed as I was hoping for a continuation of the last book to see what happens. I'm hoping for them to reunite and have adventures, a love story and a happy ending.

Tugs at the Heart

The story of Sidroc is both heartbreaking and promising. One cannot help but feel for Sidroc, as his entire life was met by one challenge after another. Most pivotal was the disfiguring wound on his face inflicted by his cousin during his boyhood. Tragic as his childhood was, Sidroc had a unique way of viewing life, and despite his Viking tendencies to battle and pillaging, he treated others with a kindness one would never expect to find in such a character. The immoral acts he committed were pretty much excused by his innermost character traits, and one would likely find themselves routing for him to come out on top. The story was so good, I found myself not only listening to kill time sitting in traffic, but every time I had a free moment. I finished at record speed! Another aspect of this audiobook that deserves mention is the fantastic narration. This narrator is easily the best I’ve ever heard. Finally, the author does such a good job in painting the scenes that you’d almost feel like you were transported back to the days of Sidroc! The only complaint I would have is the way in which the story ended so abruptly, and there was such an open conclusion. I realize that the story will continue on in book one of the series, so all is good. I have already bought the entire series, so I’m ready to go!

Captivating Performance and Thrilling Storyline

This first (prequel technically) book in the “A Circle of Ceridwen Saga Story” is a wonderful backstory to one of the most mysterious and loved characters in the Saga Story. This book is narrated magnificently by Ms. Nagle and the plot and character development is nothing short of immaculate. My only regret is that I discovered this book after reading the original Saga Story. I hope the talented Randolph continues this story with more books to come.

Sidroc the Dane

Following The Saga's, the stories of Ceridwen, is how I shall refer to the enjoyable readings. . . I found this book, Sidroc the Dane to be a bit redundant, repetition within the story telling. Having read each preceding this book, I felt having heard the tales told (previously within the pages of book I, II, III, and IIII, and V).
Having said that, I am still a fan and will read the next: Tindr.
I really like the Authors method of not telling all within one massive jumbled character infused novel. Character development seems to be her method.

What a man!

I love Sidroc in the other books. Now to hear his story from childhood on was wonderful, Funny how different upbrings makes people handle life different. To be treated badly by a stepmother & to grow to be a loving man. And Nano Nagle narrated beautiful as usual.

Getting to know Sidroc was so rewarding.

Overall, the story was read well. I found it difficult at times because the reader's voice seemed monotonous so much of the time.
