I love this book..
I put it on 0.8 and have downloaded the accompanying PDF to understand the tones and letters.
The Brain works by understanding the context of words and phrases and Paul has done an exceptional job here by leveraging that insight. Don't think twice if you're serious about Mandarin.

Paul Noble’s audiobook course is the best way to learn Chinese mandarin! A must buy for all serious learners.

Very logical and Easy Way of Learning Mandarin

I am 5 hours into this course over a 2 week period. I have made good progress. Paul Noble's method is simple and modular. I look forward to getting into the course every morning. He mentions that you can forget what is being taught. One of the tricks I am using is, every morning and evening, I rewind about 15-30 mins of the material that I have gone through. It helps me with getting a firm grasp on that material as I move forward. I spent about 1.25 hour morning and evening . I augment this material with google translate as it shows me the tonal spelling. Try not to miss multiple days(I did and regretted it), a single day puts you behind a lot. Overall very impressed with this. I have bought the next book and will jump into that as soon as this is done.

I have his french course and it made me progress in leaps and bounds. It tied together stuff i learned in various places, like Duolingo, and made me able to put sentences together fast. I can’t gush enough about it.

When i saw he had a CHINESE course, as i’d just started dabbling with various learning platforms.... i was thrilled! I was finding those sources too impenetrable & unhelpful. Very heavy on chinese characters vs english letters.

So, 15MIN into this audiocourse and i can already say a few basic sentences.

Paul makes it accessible, fun, and comes at languages from the angle of understanding how sentences function- the nuts and bolts of how a language works. So you can build and rebuild your own sentences vs being stuck to memorizing a few lines. You can critically think your way through speaking/listening.

Having 2 native speakers on this is super helpful also!

easy learning

I never thought I could make so much progress that fast and only with an audio book

Wow

I've been trying to learn Mandarin on my own for about a week and a half now [I work with a couple chinese people] and, once I learned all the nuances of the tones and some basic words and sentence structure, I got confused when I would listen and hear different words used for things than I had learned and started to doubt if I could do it. But this book is absolutely amazing! I've never heard a language taught in this way and, although I had to slow it down to 90% to keep up, it's working wonders. And I'm not even done with it yet haha I'm more confident in my ability now.

Great resource for learning mandarin!

I am currently about halfway through listening to this book. I am amazed at how many words and phrases I am able to say and remember. I have learned more from this book than I have in the past several years using many other types of language learning software programs. Looking forward to hearing and speaking through the rest of this book. I have also spoken and practiced with many of my new friends in China. They all say that my spoken mandarin sounds great!
