About this listen

The fantastic prequel to The Good Daughter, the stunning new stand-alone from the number-one best-selling author of the Will Trent and Grant County series.

Protecting someone always comes at a cost.

At the age of 13, Charlie Quinn's childhood came to an abrupt and devastating end. Two men, with a grudge against her lawyer father, broke into Charlie's home - and after that shocking night, her world was never the same.

Now a lawyer herself, Charlie has made it her mission to defend those with no one else to turn to. So when Flora Faulkner, a motherless teen, begs for help, Charlie is reminded of her own past and is powerless to say no.

But honor student Flora is in far deeper trouble than Charlie could ever have anticipated. Soon she must ask herself: How far should she go to protect her client? And can she truly believe everything she is being told?

I wasn't paying attention to the fact that this is a prequel, and that I've already purchased book 1 in the series to follow it. So I'm updating my review.

Don't be shocked when it ends abruptly. It is a prequel.

Ah. It's a prequel.

The only advice I could give you is make sure you have the next book because this one leaves you wanting more and leaves you hanging

So Not Fair

I went all the way through this for that ending? Does it continue? I was enjoying the story, but there has to be something I'm missing.

What kind of ending is that?

I'm very new to Karin Slaughter's books and haven't been let down yet. I was so anxious throughout the whole story and I love that Charlie and her husband understand each other so thoroughly. Thanks for a great listen!

Now thats a prequel!

This was an unexpected pleasure to read. Great story with twist that kept things exciting. Narrator was also great.

Excellent

I don’t understand the whole pregnancy dilemma, it was too much emphasis on having a baby and how Charlie thought her husband would react... it wasn’t as if he use to be person with a questionable background so why the extra-ness? There was a lot of vagueness throughout the story and none of the characters had a solid background. I felt confused throughout and irritated on most of the chapters. Then the cliffhanger at the end was very elusive. I felt played.

Why... just why

Loved the book. Finished in one day. My only disappointment was the short story and wanting to know the next turn of events.

Awesome...but wanting more.

I don’t know that any 15 year old could come up with this type of scheme but I enjoyed listening. I don’t think it was a really good mystery and it ended quite abruptly.

An interesting book

Honestly, I thought there would be more chapters to this. It’s like the book ended in the middle of the story! Super disappointing.

Meh
