About this listen

Destiny, duty . . . and desire. In the next epic instalment in J. R. Ward's No. 1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood series, a fallen angel finds love with a mysterious female - who could be his destiny . . . or the embodiment of his utter destruction.

Lassiter, the fallen angel, is too good at the saviour business. In his new role overseeing the fates of all vampires, he's influenced outcomes he shouldn't have - so the Creator is calling him home. But the angel has a reason to stay in Caldwell. He's bonded with a mysterious female who seemed to appear from out of nowhere . . . and has powers that defy all reason.

Rahvyn is well aware that she doesn't belong in the present. And she never intended to stay, for her true place is in the past. Lassiter proves to be undeniable, however, and she lets herself fall for the angel - until a secret he's been keeping comes out and she fears that for him, it's not about love, but duty.

As the Omega's son re-establishes the Lessening Society, and the Brotherhood must resume the deadly war, an unfathomable tragedy occurs. In the aftermath, Rahvyn has to decide whether to stay and help - or save herself from an immortal heartbreak she knows will crush her very soul . . .

Really didn’t want it to end..

I loved Lassiter from start to finish, even when I didn’t want what was coming to happen.
I’ve read all of this series and enjoyed / loved every single one.
This book had my emotions all over the place - happy, annoyed, so sad I cried, then overjoyed.
I had to walk away for a few days before I could finish the story.
That’s what I think makes for a superb book like this one.
When an author can have you feeling so much, then to my mind, they’ve done such a great job as I was so invested in this story.
A truly fantastic story.
I purchased the audiobook and loved the narration.
Looking forward to any and all future books.

IT’S OK.. BUT I’M SADLY DISAPPOINTED TOO

I’ve been a devoted fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood since Wrath’s epic start to this wonderful series showed what fantastic paranormal world-building J.R. Ward is capable of. And, in the subsequent books, her talents grew and grew introducing new characters, new loves, new problems and new ways to always make me ‘one click’ her books.. especially Lassiter’s long awaited story. The quirky funny fallen Angel who’s been a solid part of this band of vampire brothers and to give support in their fight to protect their King and rid Caldwell of the evil Lessers.

Lassiter’s chosen is Rahvyn.. but, like the woman herself, it’s a complex journey and an emotional rollercoaster that cuts deep, then soothes your soul then delivers the ultimate blow. But I must say, nothing can beat those unique first books for me. I’m also disappointed the Lessers are back (yawn, a rinse and repeat), that Lassiter has none of his loveable quirkiness and Davina and Lash seemed to both have personality changes.

Worth a credit? For fans of the BDB, then yes. It’s got some exciting drama, a bit of romance, sinister suspense, sex and multiple POV’s. But it also has WTF moments too.. and I must admit to increasing the speed to get through it. However, the voice that is the BDB, the one who always brings the brothers, the ebbs and flows, the highs and lows and the cast of characters to life.. the one and only Jim Frangione did a great job.
